Thread: Running lights keep popping fuses.

    Running lights keep popping fuses.

Help me troubleshoot my left driving lights as they are popping the fuse as soon as I turn them on. I've pulled the front housing and disasembled it. No apparent grounding. Left the housing out with no bulbs in. Still burning fuses. So I go to the rear and pull the bulbs out there. Still popping. Where to check next? Funny thing is turnsignals, reverse and flashers work fine. hmmmm

It sounds like there is a hot wire shorting to ground somewhere between the fuse panel and the fixture. You need to identify the problem wire and inspect it carefully for cracked/chafed/melted insulation. If there are multiple hot wires connected to the same fuse, disconnect them all and hook up one wire at a time to isolate the one with the fault, or use an ohmmeter to check each hot wire for continuity to ground. When you have the faulty wire run identified, look all along it for insulation faults anywhere it passes close to the chassis (at clamps, bulkhead penetrations, etc.) or just run a new wire.
