    Door Pockets and handles

Door Pockets - I want to restore my door pockets. Is it possible? or they have to be replaced?

Interior door handles - I notice there is only a grab handle on the passenger side? Why is this? I thought originally it was taken off my car. Where should u grab the door inside to close it?

    thanks

The door pockets should be restorable depending on their condition. Do you have the al trim with the pockets? If they are warped, you can steam the material which makes it very pliable. That will allow you to reform them to the correct shape. If the pockets have broken areas, you can epoxy them and clamp two pieces of wood on either side of the repair to smooth out the epoxy. Put wax paper inbetween the repair and the wood to keep them from gluing together.

If the fixed map pockets have speaker holes, you can use stereo cabinet press board backing to fill the hole. I got it from Home Depot - they have several thicknesses. It works great IMO and once covered in Vinyl, you really cannot tell. You can purchase flocking from an arts and crafts store to finish the inside if you choose to do that. This all depends, of course, on what condition they are in now. Good luck.

The handle was omitted from the driver's side because it would interfere with the steering wheel ergonomics. Since I drive the car in mostly warm weather, I grab the top of the door to shut it. I try not to pull the map pocket as it deteriorates the rubber top.

There was a great "how-to" in Esses a couple of issues ago.

Right hand drive cars have the passenger pull handle on the left hand door, order a arm rest for a right hand drive.

72911E: If your car has wing windows that open, open it and pull door from bottom of wing opening at top of door skin (horizontal trim), not on vertical trim. If no wings, open window after entering or get in seat really fast!
