    UK tag

I have a tag on my UK delivered '71 coupe.
I suspect its to do with the seat belts but I'm not sure.
Can anyone confirm what it relates to ?

    Cheers,
    Dennis.

All UK cars have this tag. BS AU 140:1967 is about the Standards of Performance of seat belts. Have a look here

I have not seen that text before on a UK car. I have four of those UK addtional tags here. 2 from UK 1970 cars, 1 from a UK 71 car and 1 from a UK1973 car. Each just says "BS AU 48". Not sure why yours also has "1967". Nick have you seen one with that text before?

    Thanks
    Alan

Its true that I haven't seen a BS AU 140:1967 tag, which is odd as B.S. AU48 dates from 1965 and even a '72 car has the B.S. AU48 tag

The 1967 refers to the exact edition of the Bs that is applied.

Often BS's are updated and the newest edition has additional constraints etc or changes...

The reference is therefore to give more exact information.

I think, but will need to check, but the updating process was abandoned and now BS's are superceeded and new numbers are issued to ensure outdated editions are not used by mistake.

    Thanks for the info chaps.
Even though the car has had one makeover about twenty years ago,I have no reason to believe this tag is not original.

    Cheers,
    Dennis.

interestingly, my (originally) South African May 69 car also has the 'BS AU 48' tag. South Africa wasn't part of the colonies then either ?!!

    Andy,
Its on the thread that Nick gave.
It looks like the Irish (?) Statute book listings.
My car was completed on 1st March 1971 as far as I can determine ,so it would have sold in the UK maybe March / April 1971.
I have some MOT copies (I dont understand these prints) from the DVLA but I can't see any thing obvious relating to Ireland.

    Cheers,
    Dennis.

On second thoughts - could my car be an Irish delivery originally ?
