    Cool Consensus on Dash Caps?

What's the consensus on Dash Caps?

I have a nearly mint 73 911 E with the standard cracked dash. Replacing the dash with a new one is cost prohibitive. How do the Dash Caps look? They are cheap, do they look it? Is it better then the cracked dash?

Bottom line, should I go that route or leave it as it is?

    Many Thanks,

    Chris

i have one on my e.
it looks better than the cracked one, but with a slightly plastic look.
in fact when i bought the car i didn't realize it was a cap!
    i'll admit i didn't look very close.
    when funds allow i'll replace.

Well there may be a few versions of these. I have owned a car with one. I would say dash would have to be pretty ratty for one of these to improve appearance.

I yanked mine off and will live with the crack in the dash, for now. To me, a cracked dash is an improvement over the dash cap.

i don't think it looks that bad.
unless you wear your cracks with pride.
it proves you have the real thing and not a backdate.

good link. My dash is not that bad. Just one big crack. I have tried to fill the crack with black gunk a couple of times but still looks marginal at best.

    Still on the fence.

if it's just one crack, even two but nothing jarring, then wear it w/ pride. call it patina if you want, some people pay big money for that word

if it looks like the one in the link, that would be too 'ghetto' even for me. and i'm fine w/ ghetto, ask around

then there is another solution but requires a hands-on approach:

    next pg w/ installed pics:

last pic shows the sfi padding covering the knee-bar running under the dash. recently i covered that padding w/ the same material for a uniform 'top-n-bottom' look.
