    narrowbody 2.7 rs mules?

vaguely remember hearing ab them but not sure anymore. have they ever been made? thought i saw some pics of cars w/o ducks that were narrow 2.7's... and if they have made them, how many were there?

is this the kind of stuff that's in excellence was expected or even in frere's book?

    thanks.

The original plan by the factory was to make the 2.7 an extension to the range a la 2.4 without ducktail etc. In fact the adverts were already made up ready for distribution. There is a pic of the ad in the RS book. Some of the first RS's came this way. Again pics of these in the book. Chassis 16 (?) was sold recently in the US and was duckless (signal orange if I remember).
The French delivered RS's had to have a steel front bumper and not the traditional RS type. So there are a few 2.7's with features similar to the standard cars.

I always thought that the ducktail was an option on the RS, though I've never seen an RS without one, excluding the orange prototype.

There were certainly one or two. F Porsche had one in metallic blue because the factory found it difficult to get some colours to match up on the two materials.

I seem to remember something about the ducktails not being street legal (TUV) in Germany at the time and that may have something to do with some being delivered without ducktails.

I've always considered the glass to be half full...that is until I reached middle age and realized that it is actually half empty.

I believe that TUV rule went into effect for the 1974 MY German Carrera. ROW 74 Carreras had the ducktail. For MY 75 Carreras, they went to the larger format rubber trimmed rear tail, which was legal everywhere, including Germany, as it was deemed to be more "pedestrian friendly" by TUV.

I always thought that the ducktail was standard once the design had been finalised and it was 'ducktail delete' that was the option for the French market or personal choice. Why would Porsche build a car in Germany for Germany with a part which did not conform to regulations? Can someone confirm?

DM 36,000 for the price. Wasn't that about $18K US back then?

Mike, looks like you and I hit the "post reply" button at the same time. I might have answered your question above your post.
