    1967s restoration

I'm trying to decide weather or not to use the original #'s matching eastern body, in need of major restoration, or a much better 67s body that I own in the restoration of an original #'s matching 1967s. Any thoughts out there? Thank you, RJS

My girlfriend and I were discussing this a couple of weeks ago too. My sense is that there's a general moral dilemma about switching VIN from a rusty original car to one that is in much better structural condition. My sense is that dilemma doesn't seem to exist if you are basically putting lots of new sheet metal "underneath" those numbers. I look forward to people's replies too.

I am past the notion of switching #'s on these bodies, and prefer the real deal, unless I were to build a car with non matching #'s as a plan. -RJS Burlington,VT

I don't think there is a staightforward answer to this. As you probably know, a numbers matching car is more valued by the market, so I guess this is a function of how much more it would cost to restore the original body, and how much you yourself value a numbers matching car vs. a car that will probably be just as good and nice (or maybe better) than a numbers matching car at a much lower cost.

I would personally try my best to keep things matching numbers even if it costs a bit more.

I would sell the complete rusty S and focus on the non rusty S body. With the proceeds of the sale I would buy whatever parts or doner cars that were needed. I would rather have a non matching S that was never rusted than one brought back from the dead that matches. I certainly would not switch numbers.
