Later sport seat reupholstered to early recaros seats?

Guys,
I have been playing with the idea of taking a decent core set of later recaro sport seats with leg supports and redoing them in early style black perforated vinyl and houndstooth inserts. I somewhere recall seeing a picture in which someone did the same thing a while back. Anyone remember the thread where the picture was? Here are the type of seats I am thinking of using as cores.

I would have killed for those seats a few months ago. They are extremely comfortable and hold one really well in the twisties. I was looking and looking for a pair to recover in black cord.

I think that this will be the next trend as Sport Seats continue to be bought up at WTF prices. The seats from the link Andrew posted came out real nice. I am going help work on that car tomorrow.

So which models of Recaros are good candidates for the kind of conversion Tony did to Andrew's seats?

My friend Bob Gagnon is going to have Tony Garcia do houndstooth inserts on the modern sport seats in his '92 964 Cup car, which is white w/black interior. Should look really sharp! Can't wait to see it.

Umm....I wish those were my seats.

I am a definate houndstooth fan and the ones pictured are with in the scope of my "Driver E" looks original feels modern...at least to the behind and lower back.


I seemed to think that those seats were made from [Recaro] BMW sport seats? This is a set on Ebay; It looks as if it would need a headrest swap though. The ones in Gruen's top photo seem to be a good match also (see the taper on the headrest).

Andrew. I have a set of recaro's out of my 73E that i am selling here

they are from 78/79 bmw i believe.
very comfy, very solid in corners.
weigh about 40lbs, i think.
