    RS #1247 surfaces in Beirut

The RS Lightweight #1247 has surfaced recently in Beirut, having been in storage since the mid seventies, when its owner was kidnapped and murdered.

The car has been stored in a garage and has suffered some damage, but appears virtually complete with lightweight seats and the original motor. Interestingly it appears to have steel rear bumpers, although the front bumper has dissappeared and been replaced with something stronger to suit the rallying that it did in Lebanon.

The car was photographed by a friend of mine who sadly has been seriously outbid in his attempts to puchase it, despite doing all the groundwork to find its location and persuade the owners to show it to him. The new owner is British, but I don't know what his plans for this piece of RS history are.

It's a hazard with the proverbial "barn find". How much do you offer to secure the car without offending or giving away the potential value? After my friend made his original offer the owners looked for a second opinion. Long story but by chance the person they asked knew who to get a value from, flew over to look at the car and bought it himself.
If the new owner needs help in Beirut, feel free to put him in touch with me. I'm nearby, and also know people there.
Sadly I am not involved any longer
