It's pretty obvious that out of those 2 cars, the Lebonese car is the real one.

    Thanks guys,

My friend never took posession of the car prior to it being stolen. It would seem that he was sold a different car based on this information. I'm going to inform him, and also see what he has in the way of paperwork that was sent to him upon the purchase. This makes his recovery of the car that he was sold that much more difficult. He's a good guy, a longtime Porshe owner and this was his second RS. He currently owns a 62B cab, 65C coupe, and a 69S coupe.

    Stacy,

I used the date information in the chassis listing from the RS book. It looks like #1247 is an early May '73 production. The authors used the original production records to develope this list so I assume it is very accurate. Where did you get the date of 4/17 for your car? Your car is listed as 5/73 also in the book, which would make sense with the date codes on all the components of your car.

Actually, it is 4/16/1973, not 4/17. The info came from the Cardex (older style) that the previous owner ordered. Of ALL the Cardex's I've ordered for all my cars, this one is the ONLY one that lists a 'production completion date.'
    THUSLY:
Model Year/Type: 1973 Carrera RS Coupr
    Birth date/Production Completion Date: 04/16/1973

It goes on to list a 100% accurate description of engine number, options, country of delivery, etc etc etc.

The real 1247 is due to be airfrighted from Beirut to the UK in next couple of weeks. I understand the new owner is going to recommission the car rather than restore it, hence maintaining it's special history. I guess the guy who cloned the car and sold it to MM last year reckoned it would never surface again.

    Scamming

It would be clever to sell an RS you knew wasn't a real RS (and who anyone who dug in once they had the car would know too) and then conveneintly have it stolen before it was ever delivered to its new owner.
