    Engine lid latch panel question

I know this was discussed before but I seem to be unable to find the thread. Is there a pattern to the rear lid latch panels that have a small raised rectangular area of metal on the far left handside of the panel?

I am specifically looking for those panels on '73 Carreras but I assume it would apply to other models as well. What I noticed was the presence of those areas on a couple of early chassis # Carreras (under #100), none after that, in my database anyway, until around chassis #1100 and upwards where they appear regularly. Any thoughts or observations from others? Thanks.

This is Carrera #1156. (BTW this is supposedly a raspberry RS )

I learn something new about my car every week it seems. NB original overrider plugs now refitted. Was going to fit new ones but decided to retain originals.
    So what is the rectangle?

    Mike,

I see your RS has the rectangular stamping also. That fits with the high consistancy on the third series RS cars.

Interesting certainly not on any 73 car i have owned (4 in total) but I thought it was 74 appearance.

Any chance the back pieces have been changed out on all your cars due to accident/rust???

If not then the mystery deepens

Certainly RS #101 didn't have it and hadn't ever been crashed or replaced.

My Targa S was June 73 build and didn't have it either nor did my May build 73 E can't remeber when the 73 S Coupe was built

i am as sure as I can be that mine is original - when it was taken back to bare metal in the 1990's the paint guys said it looked as if it had never been hit front or rear
But I still have a couple of years missing on its history in the mid 80's so..........

#1247 (the Beirut RS) also has the rectangular stamping and from my picture files #1065 does not

Brian is right, this was discussed before ... but for the life of me ...

This might be another March (mid-year) change like so many other things on a '73

This is my April build #1099 S

    Hope this helps,

    Cheers,

    Guys,

Thanks for the feedback. I too wondered about the possibility of repair replacement with a later style latch panel but there are too many third series RS cars with the rectangular stamping. The #1247 car is very original so I think it is possible, as Chuck mentions, a '73 MY running change later in production.

Does any body have photos of the G body cars showing these different latch panels?
