I am certainly a bit biased as I also have a '71 S Targa. If a PPI checks out the information the seller states and no red flags with engine and mechanicals it seems to be fairly priced at his BIN price. Maybe you could work the price lower a bit but a range of $45 to 48K is fair IMHO. Others may have a better market pulse on this one though.
Do yourself a big favor. If you are really interested in it, make the trip there to see it in person and drive it. Too much $$$ not to check it out personally.

I'm actually in the vicinity of the car and I would go look at it first, but I was hoping someone or some people on the board could lend their expertise and glean from the pictures any missing or incorrect items. I would also be willing to pay for that expertise, if someone wanted to accompany me to the appointment. The board's expertise is unbelievable.
All other things being equal, in terms of value, is the '73S worth more than a '71S?

2.2's (1970-71) have their fans and 2.4's (1972-1973) have their fans. The 2.2's are more revvy and in fact have to be driven "on the cam" (above 4,000RPM or so) for maximum enjoyment. The 2.4's have a bit more torque so can be driven at lower rev's - but the cam still comes on strong at higher revs.Originally Posted by RodKnock

I think the 2.2's and 2.4's are pretty equal in value - the 2.4's may have just a little larger fan base, but the 2.2 fan base is maybe a bit more zealous.

I sure don't see many things at all that are incorrect or missing. I don't see a tensioner upgrade unless it is a mechanical upgrade that wounldn't be visible. Picky things would the be missing rear seatbelts and, inspite of what the seller says, the toolkit is missing tools. There are no photos of the front trunk so can't comment on that. On the flip side it has many, many nice things that are very expensive to aquire if they are missing (correct sport seats, wheels, AL rear lid, correct door panels, new paint, good documents, etc.).
Better go drive it so you can see for yourself what the 2.2L 911/02 and the 901 trans is all about.
