    Replacing outside window weatherstripping

    Subject: '72 911 targa

Question: How do you replace the outside window weatherstripping?

Observation: It appears the window weatherstripping slides in a track that is part of the chrome trim piece that adorns the top of the door. My weatherstripping (both sides) slides freely in this channel.

Question: If the above observation is correct, how do you remove the chrome piece to slide in the new window weatherstripping

Observation: My window weather stripping is in fairly good condition, but has has shortened over time opening up a 1/4" gap. This gap allows water to run into the inside of the door. I understand this shrinkage is fairly common as the weather stripping ages.

Thanks in advance for any help.

The chrome trim is held on by 7 or 8 snap clips, slide a plastic spatula between the trim and the door skin, usually best to start at the back edge. Gently pry up , the snap clips will unsnap and you just go right down the length of the trim piece popping the clips free.

Tip, before attempting to insert the new rubber into the chrome piece, place your new rubber strips and the chrome trim in a tub of hot water. The metal will expand and the rubber will slightly soften. The water must be HOT. This will make your work much more easy.
