    happy birthday

40 years ago today, May 25th 1967, my white 1967 911S (306788S) was picked up at Pon’s Automobielhandel N.V., Amersfoort by F.E (Fred) Davies (at the time the owner of an AMC dealership in Long Beach) and driven around Europe before being shipped back to San Diego.

Happy Birthday to 306788S and to all of the other 1967 911S's which were born forty years ago this year.

    cheers,
    ---gary

Gary, There was an outfit in Santa Monica that was an importer just like my father. They dealt either directly with Pon's outfit (the distributor in Holland for Mercedes, VW, and Porsche), but more than likely they dealt with a middle man like Bob Domei, also in Holland. Domei would arrange with the Santa Monica outfit for delivery at Pon's, and then would also arrange the shipping. At that time you could save a bundle buying and importing this way. Note that on the documentation, the importer was the buyer (Fred) of the car, and the Santa Monica agent was the "broker", rather than an import agent, and never took possession of the title.

Car looks great Gary! What are those tires????

    Thanks Peter and Eric,
i'm running 911 steel wheels modified to a deep-six offset in front and an 911R/7-inch offset in back with Dunlop 500 L-15's in front and 500 M-15's in back. the Dunlop's (vintage bias-ply) make for an 'interesting' ride on the freeway, but are wonderful on smooth back roads. that's where the fun is anyway, right? just make sure you've got time before drives to check the air pressure and wait the first couple miles of driving for them to heat up and for the temporary flat-spotting to wear off.
