    Mounting for Fuel Overflow Tank

    Excuse my bastardized horn mounting.

It appears a previous owner replaced the driver's side fender and dumped the fuel overflow tank. I've obtained another one, but can't seem to figure out what it connects to on the left side (looking forward). Does anyone have a picture they could share?

Here's a shot of how I mounted a later tank in my '73

Here are a few threads at Pelican on the topic.

I have an original tank and an original bracket. I'm trying to figure out what the square hole on the left side of the bracket (upper end in the picture) hooks on to. I don't see anything to the left of the headlight bucket. Reading through the other threads, I am guessing the answer is nothing?

As best I recollect, the band goes around the tank between the two parallel lines that you see. The tank has an indent on the other side that fits in the headlamp bucket. Trial fit it and see where the ends of the strap end up. I think they clip over something.

I just took mine off of a 73 911 E (a week ago). It was cracked and I needed the mounting spot to mount better horns.

Anyway, the tank is held in place by the strap picutred previously. just like the battery hold down staps, there is a tab on the left side (looking from the rear to front) that the strap is attached to. It is then attached via a bolt on the right side.

I took mine off as it was spilling gas on hard right turns. I stuck a one man brake bleader valve into the hose to allow air to enter the tank as fuel is burned but not let gas escape. This set up has worked perfectly.
