    Le Mans 24 hr race

O.K, it’s been 2 day’s since the 75th running of the 24hrs. of Le Mans. Am I the only one that watched it?
And I did watch all 17.5 hrs of it. What a great race, Major drama in every class. A few surprises and an upset, but like Dr. Ulrich said, expect the unexpected. For the Audi TDI team they did pretty much blow away the Peugeot 908’s, but destroyed 2 cars in the process. Mike Rockenfeller wrote off the “Jr. team” car around the fourth hour, and Capello had a lt. rear wheel come off somewhere just after the halfway mark and pretty much wrote off the “Dream Team” car of Kristensen, McNish and Capello which left defending Audi’s effort to the “Sr. Team” of Biela, Pirro & Werner with a 10 lap win at the end over the Peugeot 908’s. The LMP2 class almost completely imploded with only 2 of the 11 starters running at the end with the honors going to the American IMSA Team Binnie Zytek Lola. Way to go Bill Binnie! Aston Martin DBR9’s finally got it’s class win over the Corvette team with the Brabham, Rydell and Turner entry. Glad to see David finally get a win, and I think it was pretty cool to see the Factory Astons all with “00” numbers 006,007,008 & 009. Hope to see them back in the U.S. ALMS series real soon! And especially sweet was the 997 GT3 IMSA Performance team of Patrick Long, Narac and Lietz beat the heavily favored Ferrari 430 GT’s , although I was really cheering for the Flying Lizard team to come thru with a little sweet revenge and brilliant driving over the Risi Competizione F 430, but they both broke, and it never materialized. You can see all the stats and some pretty good photo’s on the official web site. http://www.lemans.org/24heuresdumans...hronos_gb.html

BTW, I did watch the US F-1 race too, but I wound up doing some paperwork to try and stay awake. Was there any passing during the race? Or was it all during the pit stops again??? Maybe they should have NASCAR run F-1, Then we might see some actual racing again. Damm I miss the old day’s…

    Hey Bernie

I tried to watch as much of it as I could, 15 minutes here and there. Being Canadian I was always looking for Villeneuve. But every time I was watching someone else was in the car. I was hopeful as I went to bed. They were running in 3rd I think. When I woke up they were out. Did you happen to catch any of Villeneuve's stints? What happened?

    Bernie,

I was going to try to watch LeMans but seems everytime I tried, I screwed up on the times or just couldn't figure out the coverage times.....Like you, I miss the old times. LeMans has changed quite a lot since I ran there in the mid 80's....I hardly recognize any part of the pits or track any longer. I notice you're the proud (original) owner of a 914-6. I've owned mine for 31 yrs. Just like part of the family!
