    Reproduction Seats

I am starting the restoration of my 1970 911S and need to redo the seats. It appears that I have "period correct" regular seats, but not sport seats. While I would like the correct sport seats, I am not inclined, at this time, to spend the big bucks to get them. What about the Vintage Seats from the people in MA (the "RS" model, specifically) or the GTS seats from Torino? If anyone has any other thoughts, I'd like to hear. Thanks.

    Bob-
The vintage RS seats are very, very nice. They are light, supportive, and flawlessly made. See the other recent post for news from GTS. Also look at TRE's website, as they are making some interesting reproductions.

    Bob,
If the budget is tight at the moment (isn't it always?) ,would you consider the 'generic' Recaro or Scheel seats from the late '70s ?
They are well made and some are quite similar in appearance to the proper sport seats of the early '70s.Can't find a pic in my collection at the moment - maybe the seat police... ?
    ...just my 0.02c...

    Cheers,
    Dennis.

The GTS are the best bang for the buck. They look period correct (the "Nurburgring" model looks like an old recaro race bucket), they are light weight and they do there job well. That is they keep you planted.

Real Recaro sport seats look nice, they are comfortable, give you good support but they are so ex$pensive and really heavy.

I'm a big fan of keeping it stock on early cars and don't like a lot of mods but this is one area where I'm happier with the aftermarket GTS seat.

If you don't mind spending a bit more then Vintage Seats covered by Autobahn Interiors are a great way to go. The quality is obvious when you see them in person. They look much nicer than anything that came with the car originally IMO.

I've always considered the glass to be half full...that is until I reached middle age and realized that it is actually half empty.

I got mine from Stephen at GTS. Here's a pic of them in my 73. They really are a good deal and the houndstooth is great!

I bought my '69 911E with a useless stock drivers seat. Have had the Vintageseats.com RS model for about three years. Flawlessly constructed. Super light. The seat has held me tight at Streets of Willow and Willow Springs Raceway, canyon carving around my home, and normal stop and go L.A. traffic. I recommend them highly. And the price point can be quickly dismissed when you consider what a critical piece your drivers seat is to your overall early 911 driving experience. (I kept the passenger seat stock.)
