FS Blue 1971 911 Targa in NY

I’m selling my metallic blue 1971 911T Targa, located in southern NY, $22,000 firm. Picture below.

This chrome-bumper Targa was delivered August 1971 through Team Lucas Porsche in Hayward, CA and then resided in dry central-valley Stockton area of California (CA blue plate car) its entire life until last year, when I had it freighted to and registered in New York. Before that I searched the east coast to no avail for a rust-free 1970-1973 pre impact-bumper (ie chrome) Targa – a few cars but none as good, original and solid enough to purchase in that price range.

I’ve driven it sparingly, always garaged and had it looked after and serviced at nearby early Porsche specialist Rennwerke. This early Porsche Targa in its spectacular original color is solid, serviced and very reliable but with other toys I simply don’t enjoy it as often as it deserves, so its time to go to a new appreciating owner. I recently stretched its legs on a 300 mile round-trip and it performed flawlessly.

Please PM me to make contact. Have many more detailed photos.

The Porsche Certificate of Authenticity shows matching numbers, the 5-speed manual shifts smoothly and the original 2.2ltr engine has been very reliable with excellent response, has PMO Weber carburetor upgrade and Carrera chain tensioner update, black interior is refurbished to original and in very good condition, I fitted new door pockets from Original Fit Interiors and the original ones are included and can still be used. Sits on the original and desirable 'deep six' Fuchs wheels (6x15) and all are in good shape. Has the desirable S Options - S gauges, S deco trim and S aluminum sill trim, and odometer reads 78,400, which I presume should be 178,400?

There are ~$25,000 of receipts for work and new parts (inc OEM muffler, clutch, suspension, fuel tank, brakes, carpet) and service records. Also included is the original tool kit and owner's manual with stamped service book showing Team Lucas Porsche service history, original delivery details and prior CA owners.

The car was repainted its original color five years ago ‘Blau Metallic’ (#8410 which is a brighter more-blue shade than Gemini Blue) and the color and paint get many compliments, although it was not a concours quality repaint but it has excellent shine and presents very well up close. There is a small paint flaw at the front trunk bumper area where the metallic paint was allowed to build up in depth too much when it was resprayed.

The Targa top vinyl is excellent having been recovered five years ago. The black paint on the targa top rain gutters is flaking in places and could be touched up. All the rubber targa seals feel supple and look to be in good shape. Chrome on the car is good overall, and nothing requires rechroming unless you are seeking concours perfection. Rubber window seals are good and pliable. All the gauges and electrical parts work and function as they should, except the cigarette lighter (not that it is important) and the clock runs a little slow. An alarm and a modern cd player with removable face have been fitted but the engine at high revs sounds better!

Testament to the dry climate it has lived in and the care of prior owners it is structurally solid - the floors and underside are clean and solid, as are the jacking points and suspension pick-up points. The car’s flaws would be that the front fender beading was painted over and as a result the paint has tiny cracks in this area (it barely shows and I have replacement fender beading seal for this area), the rear exhaust heat exchanger pipes have holes which I bandaged, the black dashboard has a crack on the front pad (a black dash cover is included) and the windshield has a small single stone chip below center middle. None of these seriously effect the enjoyment and pleasure of this Targa.

    Genuine Buyers only please.

    Scott

(I have described the car in photos and text as best I can. I am not a Porsche expert so relying on prior owner details, statements and records when describing it as honestly as I know. As such the car is being sold as-is with no warranties or guarantees expressed or implied. Independent inspections are welcomed. I can happily assist with shipping if required but arrangements and shipping costs are the buyer's responsibility).

Cool. Looks like a nice car. Just wondering, is it going back across the pond?
