    Auction/Seller description:

This 1971 Porsche 911E Targa is a matching-numbers example offered by the third owner. The car is stock and unmodified with its original MFI pump and intake and finished in its correct Silver Metallic. The sale includes a Porsche COA verifying original engine #6210631 and original gearbox #111269. This is a longtime California example that was sold new at Green Motors Porsche Audi in Norwalk, CA on 2/12/1970. It has been partially restored over the years with new paint and a replaced front suspension pan, and overall presents as an honest driver. The car’s history is recorded from new, having been under long-term ownership with the second owner for over 40 years. Included are the original keys, owner’s manual, warranty booklet, toolkit, jack, and all registration records dating to 1973.

The original owner kept the car for one year before selling it to the second owner who kept it through 2014. The car has been repainted in correct Code 80 Silver Metallic, and though exhibiting flaws in a few areas the seller says the finish is quite good overall. Optional 15″ Fuchs are worn with chipping paint and some curb rash, but wear new Falken ZE612 195/50/15 rubber at all four corners. It is very cool to see a 911E factory optioned with 15″ Fuchs, as many were factory equipped with 14s. The spare Fuch still has what’s believed to be its original Pirelli CN36 tire.

Corrosion is visible with bubbling beneath each headlight– above is a close-up shot of the passenger side. Inner aprons, wheel tubs, fenders, quarter panels and rockers are all very clean, and previous rust repair replaced the front suspension pan and left front battery box. The seller adds that the removable Targa top has been restored and is in very good condition. There is a small dent in the front bumper and a small paint crack behind the left side door (see photos).

The black leatherette interior looks correct and suits the driver-quality condition well. The dash shows a small crack near the right edge of the instrument binnacle, but reupholstered black leatherette seats, carpets, headliner and door trims are all in good shape. The passenger door map pocket and top sill trim piece are missing. All gauges, dash lights, exterior lights, turn signals, horn, license plate lights and under bonnet lights work as do the heater fan and wipers.

The original 2.2 liter six could benefit from good detail but remains all stock including the original MFI system and pump. The seller says it occasionally smokes a little when first started cold, but quickly warms and idles smoothly with good oil pressure and no odd noises. Overall this appears to be an honest E Targa that won’t win any concours awards but looks perfect for rallies and weekend drives.
Now on CL SF Bay Area for $68,000 OBO (same pictures as above): http://sfbay.craigslist.org/sfc/cto/5314080721.html
Currently in between Porsches. Sold my 73.5T Targa, now suffering from serious withdrawal symptoms. Attending Rennsport Reunion VI didn't really help getting over it.

It wont sell on BaT. Seller likely has reserve way too high.

    BaT Auction Description:

This 1971 Porsche 911E is a matching-numbers example which was purchased out of Italy by the seller. The car has been repainted in its correct Light Yellow and retains original engine #6210327 and transmission #7112127. The injected 911E fit between the base 911T and range topping 911S in power and performance. This one appears stock and unmodified and is described as having no mechanical issues. It is offered with a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity and a clean Arizona title.

Nicely detailed paint in the original shade of Light Yellow looks like a thorough respray with minimal signs of overspray. Refinished 15″ Fuchs wheels wear new Vredestein Sprint tires in the stock size of 185/70-15 per the included COA.

H4 headlights have proper chrome surrounds. Steering, brakes, and suspension are all said to feel good on the road.

Body panels are clean and straight with no evidence of accident damage. The doors shut crisply with their customary ring, and stainless rockers look good. More photos are available in the gallery below.

The interior is described as original except for aftermarket nylon carpeting – door pockets, vinyl and headliner are all in very good condition. Its MPH speedometer shows 32,000 miles, but the seller doubts the number’s accuracy.

There is a burn mark on the driver’s seat bottom, a small crack near the passenger-side defroster vent, and some minor warping on the dash photographed below.

Fitted with Bosch mechanical fuel injection, the original, numbers-matching 2.2-liter boxer starts immediately whether hot, cold, or inactive for long periods – furthermore, it doesn’t leak oil and smokes only slightly upon cold start-up. The seller says the five-speed transmission works well with perfect clutch take-up.

Underside corrosion is said to be minimal, with detailed photos in the gallery below. Though the front suspension pan is described as solid and original, a number of holes have at some point been drilled near the tow hook (see photos).

Floors and suspension attachments points are viewable below. The rear torsion bar area is also solid, and the bottoms of the doors look good as well. Although no service history is provided, the seller says the car needs nothing mechanically.

You were correct, bidding stopped at $90k and reserve had not been met. I guess we will be seeing it again on ebay or one of the auctions.

    69 911E 4.jpg

    Auction Description:

This particular 911E 2-litre B-Series dates from 1969 and is fitted with the semi-automatic Sportomatic transmission which had a conventional synchromesh gearbox in series with a torque converter and a normal clutch operated by a vacuum-controlled lever. To change gear the driver simply had to move the lever through a conventional H pattern. With no clutch pedal to press, this resulted in smoother changes than most drivers could achieve with a manual transmission.

This car appears to have spent much of its life in Geneva, Switzerland, and comes with a fair amount of Swiss service history back to 1988 but you will need a good knowledge of French to decipher this. From what we can gather it appears to have undergone a full body restoration and repaint in 1990 with numerous other invoices for servicing and upkeep between 1988 and 1998.

The car was imported to the UK in early 1998 by World-Wide Classics of Surrey from whom the vendor acquired it in March of that year. A London-based barrister, he used the car fairly regularly over the next ten years (including trips around Holland and Belgium during Euro 2000), having it maintained by 911 specialists Parr Garage of Surrey.

Various bills and old MOTs on file show that the car covered some 25,000kms (15,500 miles) during this period, including a fairly major bout of engine and gearbox work in May 1999 at a cost of £3,385. We are told that the car also received another major bout of mechanical work in 2008 (including having the crank seals replaced) but at the time of cataloguing the bills for this could not readily be located.

With the arrival of two children about 10 years ago the car was not really practical for a family man so it has been very little used since then, being last MOTd and on the road in 2013 and kept on SORN since. Mainly in storage for the last few years, it is now in need of some recommissioning before it can be put back into use. Supplied with a V5 and the aforementioned service history, it also has an original owner's handbook in its original wallet (in French) and a copy of a detailed Porsche technical manual relating to the 911 Model 68 (in German).

On arrival at Brightwells we found that the car started easily and ran very sweetly as we drove it around our 10 acre site to take these photos, with smooth gear changes, good brakes and good oil pressure and temperature. The bodywork appears very sound with just the odd minor blemish here and there, and it retains the correct and highly desirable Fuchs alloy wheels shod with good Vredestein tyres.

    Auction Description:

Here is a great opportunity to own an early 911 E Targa that can be driven now, and restored as you enjoy it. This original Tangerine and Black Targa is complete with Fuchs alloys, the desirable “E” engine, and has recently had seat restoration performed. This is a great candidate for a comprehensive restoration on a very valuable and collectible model that also comes with a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity.
