    Auction Description:

    This 1969 Porsche 911E Targa is finished in its original factory color of Ossi Blue with black interior. The accompanying Porsche Certificate of Authenticity verifies that this is a matching-numbers car. A Porsche enthusiast from the Tampa Bay area in Florida owned the car from 1971 until 2015, when it was sold to a collector near Portland, OR. The previous owner entered this 911E into the Forest Grove Concours d'Elegance in 2016, where it was shown in the S2-Porsche category. Moore Porsche Audi, Inc., of Philadelphia, PA, sold this 911E Targa to its first owner on September 24, 1969, with just 55 miles on the odometer. He owned this 911 from 1969 to 1971 and regularly had it serviced at Porsche dealerships during his tenure. He sold the Targa in late 1971. In 2018 the car was sent for a full paint correction and detail. The interior was also tidied up. This is 911E comes with a full pre-purchase inspection from Porsche Centre Victoria. This 1969 Targa is one of just 858 to leave the factory that year, and it is powered by a 2.0-liter 6-cylinder engine mated to a 4-speed manual transmission.

    BaT Description:

    This 1969 Porsche 911E is a soft-window Targa that was delivered from the factory in 1968 to the Royal Canadian Air Force Station Zweibrücken in Germany. It was later brought to the US by its original owner, a lieutenant stationed at the base. The car was sold in 1979 to the second owner in Ohio, who sold sold it to the third owner in Maryland in 1987. The previous owner performed a refurbishment from 2007-2010, and the seller purchased the car seven years ago. Power is from the numbers-matching 2.0-liter flat-six, which was rebuilt in 2014 and is paired with the stock 5-speed manual transaxle. Finished in Polo Red, this 911E was factory-optioned with a ski rack and Recaro sport seats, and it is said to be one of just 13 911E soft-window variants identified by the Early 911S Registry. The sale includes records from the last seven years, original paperwork and service booklet, a driver’s manual, a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity, and a clean Missouri title in the seller’s name.

    A Glasurit single-stage repaint in the original Polo Red (6802) was performed during the refurbishment, which was carried out by the previous owner at his shop, Bach Racecraft in Verona, Wisconsin. Prior to the paintwork the car underwent sheet metal repair to address rust. Photos of both the panel repair and refinishing process are included in the photo gallery below, as are closeups of the finish as it appears currently. The seller notes two areas of paint peeling under the engine lid. 15” Fuchs remain unrestored and wear Vredestein Sprint Classic tires that were mounted in 2011 about 5k miles ago. The targa top and soft rear window were also replaced during the 2007-2010 work. The targa top and window zipper were lubricated during a February 2018 service. The car retains its factory options of US bumpers and a ski rack with eight leather straps, as well as bumper-mounted fog lights.

    he interior is trimmed in black leatherette with charcoal carpets and optional Recaro sport seats. The carpets were replaced during the refurbishment, and the seats and dash were given a refresh. As a US export model, the car features a rear parcel shelf in lieu of seats as well as US gauges. The 5-digit odometer shows 23k miles and is believed to have rolled over once. The seller has added about 5k miles during seven years of ownership, and the speedometer was rebuilt in 2014.

    The 2.0-liter flat-six features Bosch fuel injection and sends power to the rear wheels through a 5-speed manual transaxle. The engine was overhauled in 2014 at ET Automotive Group in Union, Missouri with a top end rebuild as well as new main and rod bearings, new pistons rings, and timing chain tensioner and guides. A compression test in May 2018 yielded the following values: cylinder #1 – 148, #2 – 147, #3 – 148, #4 – 149, #5 – 145, #6 – 150.

    Other work in 2018 included the installation of two new Interstate batteries, diagnostic service, brake flush, oil change, installation of new hood supports, a steering check with replacement of the left tie rod, and an alignment, and gluing the weatherstripping on the driver’s door. A receipt from the 2014 engine work lists intake and exhaust valves, valve guides, rocker arms and shafts, valve springs, and more, and also included inspection of the cylinder heads, with a total cost of almost $10k. Additional receipts from the seller’s ownership brings the total spent in seven years to $15k.

    Engine #6290526 matches the number listed on the Certificate of Authenticity. Included with the sale is the original Manufacturer’s Statement of Origin, which details delivery to the first owner in Zweibrücken. The maintenance record booklet is also included along with a service manual, fact book, and the Porsche Certificate of Authenticity.

    Auction Description:

    - Restored in the original, rare, and unusual Bahama Yellow

    According to its accompanying Porsche Production Specification certificate, this 911 E was originally finished in the very desirable color combination of Bahama Yellow over a black leatherette. Furthermore, it was not fitted with a sunroof. Equipped with tinted glass, an antenna, loudspeaker, and Michelin tires, it was completed by the factory on 13 May 1969 prior to being delivered new to California, where it is believed to have spent the majority of its life.

    In 2014 the car was subject to a full restoration, returning it to its original Bahama Yellow with contrasting white “Porsche” lettering on the doors. Shortly thereafter, the car was shipped to Gilson MotorSports of Troy, Michigan, where several updates were made, including an update to the timing chain tensioner, tie rods fitted from the 911 Turbo, and an upgrade to the throttle bodies and linkages. Additionally, it is important to note that the car retains its original engine but is fitted with a replacement gearbox of the correct type.

    Still residing in California today, the 911 E presents wonderfully throughout, a testament to the quality of its restoration. It would surely be a lovely example to drive and enjoy, thanks to its vibrant original color and the recent mechanical updates.

    On 4 April 1968, chassis no. 119220093 was completed in Polo Red with black leatherette interior, one of 1,014 Karmann bodied coupes listed under 1969 production and special ordered with optional features, including tinted glass, antenna, and Dunlop tires. While the early history of this red 911 E is unknown, it was driven into a barn on a farm in Evington, Virginia, around 1986 and left untouched for the next 32 years. Recently, the Porsche was discovered by the consignor, who was astounded to realize that the car remained in exquisitely preserved and seemingly original condition.

    Upon close inspection, this 911 appears to sport its original paint, which when tested reads between 2 mls and 6 mls throughout, and while polished thin in places, it exhibits a charming patina. The original floors are solid and the factory-applied undercoat intact, along with the Sigla windshield and Sekurit glass windows. The interior, with its original Blaupunkt radio, is all present and is in good condition. Amazingly, the original Fuchs wheels are date coded September 1968 and even the spare, also dated 9/68, still bears its original Dunlop tire.

    The copy of the factory Kardex and Certificate of Authenticity for this 1969 Porsche 911 E confirm that numbers on the engine, transmission, and chassis are all matching and it would appear that the 81,164 miles indicated on the odometer are likewise original. A little detective work suggests that the car ran in an Autocross event in 1973 in Riverside and was last registered in Virginia in 1985.

    First and foremost, this fabulous red Porsche – though not currently running – is in superb condition for its age and the perfect preservation class candidate. Frozen in time for over 30 years, it presents a unique opportunity to own a remarkable chapter in the Porsche biography.

    Surely a scam. When a legitimate car is listed for sale, crooks copy the ad and pics and create a new ad and then put a super low price. Notice the original seller’s phone is a IL area code but the suspect listing is a CA number. Their hope is that you will be so hyped on the deal you’ll wire them a deposit because the guy is gonna say he has tons of people after it. Then poof they are gone. Happened to me when I sold a car a while back on eBay, someone copied my ad and pics onto another site for like less than half of my asking.
