    Dealer Description:

    - This 911 is a time warp.
    - Unrestored.
    - Largely original paint.
    - 28,820 original mileage.

Given good care, this 911 will defy time and as each year passes, it will become ever more special. A car can only be original once, however much you spend on restoration.
Turn the key, select the dogleg first and you are back in 1969. Supplied new in California, with the same family until 2010.

Matching chassis, engine and gearbox numbers and a history folder that includes the original handwritten order form, Driver’s Manual and ‘Fact Book’. A fascinating archive of documents, invoices and registration details dating back to new. This is the mechanical injected 2.0 E model, marketed between the lower output T and the racy S, it offers excellent road-driving enjoyment. It is willing, flexible and responsive. Many would agree, it’s the sweet spot.

Canary yellow (special order) paint. This is without a doubt, deserved of our top condition category, a Grade 5.

The 1973 model year proved to be the swan song for the much-loved long-hood second-generation Porsche 911 first introduced in 1969. The choices in 1973 were three-fold; the base 911T, the intermediate 911E and the high-horsepower 911S. In terms of sales volume, both the 911T and the 911S were the most popular choices of the buying public. However, there were those discriminating Porsche connoisseurs who appreciated the 911E for its superlative torque curve that provided faster acceleration up to 70 MPH than both the 911T and the high-performance 911S. The 911E demonstrated strong low- to mid-range torque compared to that of the 911S that found its stride in the upper RPM range past 5,000. This made the 911E a favorite among automotive journalists who often did side-by-side driving comparisons of the 911T, 911E and 911S.

Built in April 1973, this 911 E is finished in striking dark green metallic over black partial leather interior. This example retains its numbers matching 2.4 liter flat six-cylinder engine and its numbers matching 5-speed manual transmission which is extremely important to any Porsche collector. Well-equipped including air conditioning, heated rear window, forged alloy wheels, Koni shocks, stabilizer bars f/r, reinforced seat- left, rear window wiper, manual antenna- left w/ front loudspeaker & noise suppression, comfort equipment and Michelin tires. The optional “Comfort Equipment” is essentially the “S” appearance package which included the “S” front spoiler, 15x6 Fuchs wheels, and sill plates.

Included in the sale is the Porsche COA, tool roll, and jack. Rare, desirable, and commonly regarded as the best of the 2.4-liter models for road use, this 911 E is a great spec with the right equipment!

    Seller's Description:

1973 Porsche 911E Targa - restored by CPR (California Porsche Restorations). Hundreds of photos available from restoration, plus receipts, and documentation dating to early 80’s. Recent service and Porsche CTC (Certified Technical Certificate) by Napleton Westmont Porsche.

    Chassis # 9113210526
    Engine # 6235579
    Gearbox # 7738695

157 bhp, 2,341 cc SOHC flat six-cylinder engine, Bosch fuel injection, five-speed manual gearbox, independent front suspension McPherson strut with single lower A-arms, torsion bars, and sway bar, independent rear suspension with semi-trailing arms, transverse torsion bars, and sway bar, and four-wheel hydraulically ventilated disc brakes. Wheelbase: 89.4 in

In 2012, California Porsche Restoration in Fallbrook, California, completed a meticulous nut-and-bolt restoration to period specifications, at a price of just over $134,000, undoubtedly making this one of the best 911 E Targas in existence. The car was stripped to bare metal, and all parts were either completely restored or replaced with factory-correct components. A new coat of the original Signal Yellow (52) was applied after the body was properly sanded and primed, and the interior was re-covered in its factory-correct material, which was specified by the car’s Porsche Certificate of Authenticity as Brown leatherette (23) with checkered seat inserts. The engine and transaxle were removed, and all components in the engine bay were either reconditioned or replaced with factory-correct components. The car was also fitted with driving lamps.

According to its original window sticker, this 911 E Targa was delivered new in 1973 to Continental Porsche in Tucson, Arizona, and it would go on to spend the majority of its life in sunny California. It had a list price of $10,765.50, according to its original window sticker, but additional options were added, including Koni shocks, ATS alloy wheels, and front and rear stabilizer bars, among others. It is believed that the current, correct engine and transmission were installed in this car by the noted Porsche specialist Vasek Polak in Hermosa Beach, California.

In addition to the original window sticker and the Certificate of Authenticity, documentation on the car includes numerous registration records, service receipts, a complete list of all work done on the car during its restoration, a list of all parts purchased for the restoration, and a CD with over 100 photos of the entire restoration process. The car also comes with its original owner’s manuals, in the correct pouch, a tool kit, a jack, a correct spare tire, and a full set of spare keys.

While the 911 has been in production for over 50 years, models produced in 1973 and earlier have become the most desirable in terms of purity of form driving character. This example represents the best engineering that Porsche had to offer, combining their signature targa roof with mechanical fuel injection. It goes without saying that any serious collection needs an early 911, and this example would be fantastic to either drive or show.
