    BaT Description:

This 1971 Porsche 911T was purchased in 1981 by the sellers mother from the original owner. The seller purchased it from her two years later, and to the best of his knowledge the car has resided in east San Diego for its entire life. A repaint in correct Light Yellow was commissioned in the late 1990s. A 2.7-liter flat-six from a 1975 911S was rebuilt and installed approximately 20k miles ago, and is mated to the numbers-matching 5-speed manual transmission. Engine modifications include 90mm Carrera RS pistons and cylinders, 911E camshafts, Weber 40 IDA carburetors, early-style stainless steel heat exchangers, Dilivar head studs, and updated tensioners. Additional alterations consist of newer Porsche front seats and a Sony CD player. Approximately 100 miles ago Black Forest Automotive adjusted the valves, serviced the brakes, changed the oil, and more as detailed below. A compression test was also performed in February 2018. This 911 is being offered with service records, a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity, factory books, and a clean California title in the seller’s name.

This 911T features the factory Comfort Equipment package. The Light Yellow (62) repaint is now 20 years old and is claimed to be in driver-level condition. The seller describes exterior flaws as areas of cracking, numerous scratches, two golf ball-sized dents, and rust bubbles at the base of the rear window and on the lower portion of the doors. Known flaws are highlighted in the extensive photo gallery below. Polished 15″ Fuchs alloy wheels wear 215/60 series Yokohama YK420 tires all around. The sidewalls display some cracking due to age.

he cabin features black leather front seats from a 1980s-era 911 along with a wood shift knob and a Sony CD player. The remainder of the interior appears to be stock, including the original thin-rim steering wheel depicted below. This is a factory A/C car without a sunroof, and the black headliner is shown in the photo gallery. Additional features include an alarm system, anti-theft ignition switch, and an on-board battery tender. Currently, the odometer shows 95,250 miles.

Power comes from a rebuilt and modified 1975 911S 2.7-liter flat-six featuring 90mm Carrera RS pistons and cylinders, E camshafts, Weber 40 IDA carburetors, and early-style stainless steel heat exchangers. Dilivar head studs and updated tensioners were also installed. The new engine is claimed to have approximately 20k miles of use since the rebuild. The build is a Bruce Anderson concept, which is highlight in his Porsche 911 Performance Handbook in the gallery below. Less than 100 miles ago, the following services were performed at Black Forest Automotive:

    Valve adjustment
Cylinder heads and rocker shafts torqued
    Carburetors synchronized and adjusted
    New spark plugs
    New engine belt
Engine oil and transmission fluid change
Front and rear calipers rebuilt along with new pads, lines, and fluid.

On February 28, 2018 at 95,228 miles Black Forest Automotive performed a compression and leakdown test. The results show 165/4, 160/5, 160/4, 160/5, 160/6, and 165/4 psi/% in cylinders 1-6, respectively. A photo of transmission stamping #7118119 is provided and matches the CoA, confirming its originality.

For someone still learning about long hoods, any comments on this car above and estimated market value? I may be a bidder.

  3. #1923
Maybe $45-$50K on a good day. It needs a lot. Never believe CA cars don't rust. It always "depends" on how they were used.
(No cooler on a warmed over 2.7?)
Trend is downward on these cars. From '16 to '18 -$10,000

Yes that car needs a lot. Seats for a start. Dash has a cover (over cracks no doubt) and an original coil. Speakers fitted to rear quarter panels, incorrect chrome tail pipe and gear knob. Aircon missing. All just on first glance at pictures.

    BaT Description:

This 1972 Porsche 911T reportedly remained in California with the original owner until being acquired in 2016 by the seller, a 20-year+ PCA member. Cosmetic and mechanical refurbishment was commissioned shortly thereafter, including the addition of rear fender flares and aftermarket bumpers prior to a bare-metal repaint. The numbers-matching 2.4L flat-six was also rebuilt, and the original 5-speed manual transmission was fitted with a new clutch. Mechanical work was performed at Graham Everett Motorsports of Braselton, Georgia and also included overhauling the brakes and fuel system. Later-model seats and a Momo Prototipo steering wheel are fitted, and around 500 miles have been added since the completion of work. This 911 is now offered with the seller’s receipts, a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity, a refinished stock rear bumper, and a clean Georgia title in the seller’s name.

Finished from the factory in Silver Metallic (80), the body was stripped to bare metal in 2016 and repainted. Steel rear fender flares have also been added along with lightweight bumpers from Restoration Design, Inc. The stock rear bumper was refinished and is included with the sale, along with chrome bumper guards. Polished 16″ Fuchs alloys were refinished before being installed and wear 205/55 front and 225/50 rear Michelin Pilot Sport AS/3 tires with 2016 date codes.

The car is further detailed in the walk-around video above, which shows an engine start and idle. Koni shocks, front and rear stabilizer bars, and a front lip spoiler were originally equipped according to the included CoA.

The cabin is trimmed in black, and a Momo Prototipo wheel has been added along with an aftermarket head unit. An invoice in the gallery notes the speedometer was rebuilt with a new cable in May 2017. 28,231 miles are shown on the odometer.

The front seats were replaced with items from a 1977 911, which show some wear and flattening on the driver’s lower cushion and an abrasion on the bolster piping. The fuel tank was removed, cleaned, and reinstalled with a new OEM fuel pump and a new fuel level sensor during the seller’s ownership. A spare 15″ Fuchs wheel remains in the front trunk.

The car has been driven 500 miles since the 2.4-liter flat-six was rebuilt by Graham Everett Motorsports. An invoice detailing parts and labor is included, and other work included a rebuild of the mechanical fuel injector pump and a new alternator. The 5-speed manual transaxle also received a new clutch, pressure plate, and throw out bearing at that time. Stamping 6122289, confirming the engine as original. Transmission stamping 7325321 also matches the CoA. The seller had the brakes overhauled, all four calipers rebuilt, and new brake lines installed. Front suspension bushings and rear axle seals were also replaced. The Porsche Certificate of Authenticity confirms the drivetrain and chassis numbers, as well as detailing original equipment.

    BaT Description:

This 1972 Porsche 911T was originally sold in Nevada and reportedly remained with the original owner in New Mexico for 23 years. The seller’s brother then purchased the car in 1995 and drove it just 400 miles before placing it in covered storage for the next 18 years. The seller and his wife acquired the car in 2014 and performed some mechanical and cosmetic recommissioning to get it back on the road. A repaint in the factory Aubergine was performed and the fuel tank was boiled out. New hoses were installed and the fluids were also changed. The 2.4L flat-six received number of updates as detailed below, and the car has since been driven more than 26k miles, including trips from the seller’s home in Texas to California and Washington State. A valve adjustment and leak down test were recently performed during an inspection, and this 911 is now being offered with a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity, a binder of receipts, and a clean Texas title in the name of the seller’s wife.

A repaint in the original Aubergine (40) was commissioned by the seller as the original finish reportedly did not have enough thickness for wet sanding. The windows were removed and Sherwin Williams paint was utilized, including a clear coat. New rubber gaskets and seals were installed after the repaint was completed. The CoA indicates that this car was optioned from the factory with 15″ Fuchs wheels, a manual antenna, front and rear swaybars, and tinted glass. New H-4 headlights, chrome front grilles, Euro headlight lenses, and rear gold lettering were added at the time of the repaint. The original lenses and lettering are included in the sale. The 15″ Fuchs wheels are mounted with new Kumho Ecsta LX Platinum tires on all four corners. The seller also had the car lowered to Euro ride height. A front bra and car cover are included in the sale.

The interior features black leatherette upholstery, and new OEM carpeting has been installed along with a set of Coco mats. The seller notes that the passenger door sill has a dime-sized dent present and a small hole is present in the headliner. A period-appearance modern radio has been installed along with new speakers. Interior gauges are reported to function as intended, including the clock. The 5-digit odometer currently shows just under 45k miles and is believed to have rolled once. The seller and his wife have added more than 26k miles, including a number of long road trips. Power comes from a 2.4L flat-six that received a number of updates following the previous long-term storage. New heat exchangers, timing chains, tensioners, and tensioner locks have been added by Mayo Performance of Ft. Worth, Texas along with a Bosch distributor, Pertronix ignition, and new spark plus. A valve adjustment was recently performed. Power runs through a manual transaxle that received new shifter bushings and a new input shaft seal. A cold start video has been provided by the seller as seen above, along with multiple compression test videos that can be seen at the end of the listing. The engine number matches the included CoA. The vented disc brakes have been gone through, new Bilstein shocks were added, and the fuel tank was drained, cleaned, and fitted with a new fuel pump.

A Porsche Certificate of Authenticity detailing the factory color and options is included in the sale along with a three-ring binder of service records from the sellers’ ownership and a log of oil changes. The compression test results can be seen in a running video on the BaT website.

    BaT Description:

This 1970 Porsche 911T was purchased by the seller in 2010 as a roller project and has since been extensively refurbished, including rust and body repair along with a repaint in silver and an interior refresh. A 2.7-liter flat-six and 915 transaxle from a 1976 donor 911 were also sourced and installed. The engine features rebuilt Weber carburetors and the gearbox has been fitted with new synchros and gaskets. Additional features of the build include upgraded suspension and brake components, staggered-width Fuchs wheels, and a Pertronix ignition system. This 911 was recently serviced with an oil change and is now being offered with parts invoices and a clean Ohio title in the seller’s name. he period-inspired hot rod build was performed by the seller, who has 20+ years in the Porsche race car and restoration business. Some rust remediation and the correction of a previous repair to the driver-side rear panel were performed before fiberglass front and rear bumpers were installed. A bare metal repaint was then performed in the current silver color. Noted imperfections include a few nicks and dents, as well as some slight fitment issues of the rear bumper. 16″ Fuchs measuring 6″ and 7″ in width have been installed and wear Pirelli P6000 tires mounted at the time of the build. Brake calipers sourced from the 1976 donor 911 were fitted stainless pistons, re-plated, and installed along with new lines, braided hoses, and emergency brake parts. New wheel bearings and seals were also added.

The interior was redone with RS-style door panels, a custom dash fascia in red vinyl, and a new headliner. Additional modifications include a period Racemark steering wheel with solid hub, radio and clock delete plates, and an early 911 interior mirror. The 6-digit odometer was swapped in from the 1976 car at the time of the engine swap and presently reads 135,750 miles. True mileage of the tub is unknown. A pair of 1970s-era Recaro seats replace the original items and are finished in black fabric with red vinyl inserts to match the dash panel.

The 2.7-liter flat-six was sourced from the 1976 911 and was refreshed in 1997 at 128k miles with a helicoil-prepped case, head studs, Euro-spec pistons and cylinders new gaskets, new rod and main bearings, rebuilt heads, oil fed tensioners, cam timing, 11 blade fan, SSI heat exchangers, sport muffler . The 915 5-speed manual transaxle was rebuilt at the same time and features new synchros and gaskets. A pair of Weber 40IDA carburetors have been completely rebuilt by specialist Paul Abbott, and additional updates include 911S cam timing, O-rings, return tubes, a digital CDI box, and a Pertronix ignition set-up. The car was last serviced with an oil and filter change at the beginning of the 2018 driving season.

Suspension components have been powder coated and include larger torsion bars, newer shocks and struts, bronze bushings from Elephant Racing, and a pair of Weltmeister sway bars mounted with new bushings and rod ends. The seller notes evidence of prior patchwork to the front pan. A start-up and driving demonstration of the car can be viewed in the video clips at the BaT website.
