Currently in between Porsches. Sold my 73.5T Targa, now suffering from serious withdrawal symptoms. Attending Rennsport Reunion VI didn't really help getting over it.

    BaT Description:

This 1973 Porsche 911T is finished in gold over a black interior and powered by a numbers-matching fuel-injected 2.4-liter flat-six paired with a five-speed type 915 manual transaxle. Additional features include fog lights, a power sunroof and windows, Fuchs wheels, a Nardi steering wheel, and more. Hydraulic timing chain tensioners were installed in May 2014, and a 2019 service included replacement of the power window switches as well as timing and idle speed adjustments. The car was subsequently acquired by the selling dealer after spending time in Southern California. This 911T is offered with an owner’s manual, a tool roll and jack, a Porsche Production Specifications certificate, partial service records, and a clean Missouri title.

Originally delivered in Gold Metallic (88), the car was repainted under previous ownership according to the selling dealer. Chrome fender trim was optioned from the factory, and additional features include front fog lights, a power-operated sunroof, and a driver-side mirror.

Polished 15″ Fuchs feature black insets and are mounted with 2018-coded Kumho Solus TA31 tires. A matching spare wheel is mounted in the front trunk. New rear shocks were installed by Exclusive Motorcars of Los Angeles, California in May 2014.

The black interior features partial leather upholstery, matching carpets, and coco floor mats. The factory-optioned Blaupunkt Lubeck cassette radio has been replaced with a blanking plate. New power window switches were installed in June 2019. A Nardi steering wheel frames instrumentation including a central tachometer and a 150-mph speedometer. Just over 92k miles are shown on the five-digit odometer.

The numbers-matching 2.4-liter 911/91 flat-six features Bosch K-Jetronic fuel injection and produced 140 horsepower when new. Hydraulic timing chain tensioners and new spark plugs were installed by Exclusive Motorcars of Los Angeles in May 2014, while idle speed and timing adjustments were performed by Reid Vann Luxury Import Specialists of St. Louis, Missouri in June 2019. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a Type 915 five-speed manual transaxle. Compression test results from July 2020 can be seen in the gallery along with additional underside photos.

The Porsche Production Specifications certificate shows an April 1973 completion date and displays factory colors, equipment, and powertrain numbers. Engine stamping 6134560 can be seen in the gallery. A factory tool roll, jack, and owner’s manual are included in the sale along with recent service records and a previously-mounted California license plate. Walk-around and driving videos are provided.

    Auction Description:

This particular 911T is one of just 26 ‘T’s that were sold new in Australia through the pre-impact bumper era the nomenclature T standing for Touring. It is Webb’s understanding that this vehicle was manufactured on 1 September 1972 and sold new via a dealer, Porsche Australia now, Porsche Centre Melbourne with options including Sportomatic transmission, sunroof, chrome-trimmed wheel arches, rear wiper and bumper ‘nudge’ bar. Additionally, whilst most 911Ts were fitted with carburettors delivering 130 bhp Australia is we believe the only RHD market that received this model with fuel injection providing a further 10 bhp and a greatly enhanced driving experience.

In terms of ownership, little is known of the car’s Australian history as all records of the period have been lost, destroyed, or misplaced! We do know that it arrived and was first registered here on 12 June 1985 residing for a time in Wellington. The limited data available from NZ Transport Agency suggests that between this date and 2000 there were a possible three owners then in 2002 a sale to a gentleman in Devonport was enacted from whom the current vendor purchased it in August 2004. The penultimate keeper mentioned above undertook a restoration of the vehicle and applied the blue colour that it is found today. It was used as a daily driver by the vendor finding, the Sportomatic gearbox to be of real value amidst the chaos of Auckland traffic. Indeed, there are not too many classic cars of this time that could provide this type of opportunity! In 2012, the aforementioned restoration was showing its age with subsequent work to rectify same undertaken by master craftsmen Simon Tippins (metalwork) and Rodney Holland (paint).

Servicing activities have always been entrusted to either Continental Car Services or Motor Science. The vehicle has always been garaged. Both engine and chassis numbers match. The upholstery is in fine order and no cracks present in the dash.

In short, a well-restored and ready to drive away classic 911 rarely found in this condition and price bracket.

This vehicle will be sold licenced and with current WOF.

An interesting sale in that this 911T was very much a “driver” level car. Non - original paint - originally Chartreuse, with this colour visible on various shut panels, engine bay, luggage compartment & underbody. Incorrect carpet. Non - detailed engine. Sportomatic vs manual transmission. Comments certainly not meant as a criticism of this 911, but adding data points to what drives the market for our special Porsches. It would appear that a premium was paid for the value the buyer placed on the RHD component. And possibly the original delivery country, as it is thought this 911 will be returning to Australia. (Full disclosure: this vehicle belonged to a good friend of mine)

    Gary/Mark,
Do you know the rational for the importer at the time (MY72), to bring in MFI 911T's instead of the ROW Weber equipped?
Or was it a Aussie/Kiwi buyer's choice? As you're aware, the MFI T's in the USA were to meet the Federal emission requirements.

Doug, simple answer. Australia introduced emission standards for light weight petrol cars on the 1/1/1972. The CO level had to be less that 4.5% by volume. HC3 was Non Applicable as was NOx and PM4. The CO test was taken at idle.
