    Seller's Description:

This is a 1972 matching numbers that was restored from wheels up 10 years ago and has been garage kept for weekend drives and out of town fun. Despite being driven on outing very minimal road rash is present. I replaced the windshield upon placement of this ad. A recent tune up revealed an idle issue that required the MFI pump to be recalibrated ( essentially a rebuild occurred which is nice for the buyer). The stereo is definitely not factory and will allow you to drown out that sweet six if you want. I have an extra hood with CIBIE tour lights that is included in sale which was the original hood, but was damaged by someone backing into it with a tow hitch. I have kept all receipts from the refurbishment and other work items since I have owned this car. The sheet metal was stripped and painted it's original tangerine as the certificate of Authenticity from Porsche demonstrates. The engine is solid and responsive and brakes are classic Porsche. The car handles like a touring car with a little more confidence than a normal T. This car catches everyone's attention and I have enjoyed owning it. I hope some else will too.

    Auction Description:

    - One of 1,523 examples produced in 1971
    - Refinished in factory-original Silver Metallic 8010 over black leatherette
    - 2.2-liter flat-six engine; five-speed manual transmission
    - Retains its matching-numbers engine per accompanying PPS
    - Restored by marque specialists in 2018; driven just 1,100 miles since

Please note that this lot will need to be collected from Sant’Agata, Bolognese, Italy

This US-market Silver Metallic 8010 over black leatherette 911 T Targa was completed at Zuffenhausen in June 1971. It was specified with front and rear sway bars, tinted glass, light alloy wheels, and the “comfort” package, which added aluminum door sills, velour carpets, gold-colored badging, and additional rubber on the car’s bumpers.

The car’s first owner of record is found in Columbus, Ohio in 1975. Its 2.2-liter engine reportedly experienced a spun bearing sometime shortly thereafter, and the car was held in storage until 2006, when it was acquired, and the engine diagnosed and rebuilt by Byers Imports of Columbus. The car later sold locally, reportedly with a full restoration planned. However, it remained largely untouched until acquisition by the consignor in early 2018.

This very late D-series Targa was subsequently imported Italy, where work promptly began to return it to its former glory after 32 years of nearly uninterrupted dormancy. The effects of long-term storage were corrected with new front and rear bumpers, rocker panels, front suspension pan, rear crossmember skin, and other minor panels replaced as needed. The body received a complete respray in its factory-original Silver Metallic paint and a new tinted windshield, and many perishable seals and gaskets were replaced throughout.

The electrical, brake, and suspension systems were completely overhauled, with parts replaced as necessary. Many original parts were retained, restored, and rebuilt, where permitted by condition. The 2.2-liter engine, numbers-matching per the accompanying Porsche Production Specifications certificate, and correct-type gearbox were bench-tested after receiving new gaskets and reinstalled after the fitment of a set of Inox heat exchangers and new exhaust system.

Most of the black leatherette interior is believed to be original and was treated to a gentle conditioning. A new set of velour carpeting and door pockets were acquired to complete the interior cosmetics. The exterior trim was similarly treated to a similar program of replating, or replacement when necessary.

As one of just 1,523 D-series T Targas produced only for the 1971 model year, this rare and recently restored example in desirable factory-correct colors is a fully sorted and supremely attractive offering. It is accompanied by a Porsche Production Specifications certificate, owner’s manual, service booklet, “basketweave” tool roll, service invoices, and a photo album documenting its 2018 restoration.

    Dealer Description:

In the 2001 film “Blow”, George Jung leads his father, Fred Jung, to the courtyard of his mansion where George’s cars are being wiped down. Right between George and Fred, played by Johnny Depp and Ray Liotta respectively is the nose of a Tangerine long hood 911. For any Porsche enthusiast watching the movie, it surely grabbed their attention as soon as it was visible in the frame. When a listing for 1971 911T came up for sale with the same shade original paint some years ago, it too grabbed our attention- especially when the owner mentioned that it had a cameo appearance in the aforementioned film.

When the car arrived it was indeed still in its original paintwork, but the paint was so thin that it rubbed through to the primer beneath while being hand polished. The interior was all original as well but also a bit tired and in need of attention. As the inspection went on, it appeared that the suspension was completely original and had never been touched. The engine ran, but poor leak down numbers meant that it surely would need to be removed and rebuilt. It was a good car that had the potential to be great, but every area of the car needed some attention to reach its full potential.

The engine was the first item addressed. It was removed and completely rebuilt, and the chain tensioners updated. The exterior was next. The body was straight and solid, so the windows and trim were removed and any dings were straightened before it was repainted in the original Blood Orange color. Once out of paint, the suspension was completely rebuilt with new components. A client saw the car at that stage of completion and had to have it, but with some special requests for the interior.

First, the headliner was cleaned, new carpets and door pockets were installed, and a perfect dash pad was sourced. The client requested a stereo that would be easily removable without modifying the original interior panels. The team made a set of front speakers that easily slipped in and out of the pockets in the lower kick panels and a rear speaker that attached to the luggage strap hooks on the rear package shelf. The head unit has a removable faceplate with a cover that mounts over it to match the dashboard, concealing the fact that it is even there. A set of houndstooth sport seats were sourced and installed along with a smaller diameter, thicker wrapped steering wheel with the “Hockey Puck” horn button was installed to give the interior a sportier aesthetic.

The finished result was a spectacular driver’s car that was fully sorted both inside and out. Since its completion in 2013, it has been used sparingly by its last two owners who collectively added a mere 10,000 miles on the odometer. Today, it still presents beautifully throughout and performs flawlessly thanks to the fastidious care of its most recent owners.

For anyone in search of a fantastic long hood 911 with an interesting backstory that is in need of nothing but a new owner and some twisty roads, this is the car for you.

Hard to believe that this fully repainted 71 911T missing all service receipts over the past 50 years (except a few hand written notes on scrap paper), is being allowed by BaT to be presented as a 10k original miles car as claimed by the selling dealer. The only thing that indicates this is a 10k original mile car is the odometer reading on the speedo.
One of my favorite Homer Simpson quote sums it up: "It takes two to lie: one to lie and the other to listen".

Holy guacamole . Sold (per eBay) for $60,600. I see a non-matching numbers #4 driver (if that). But who knows what lurks behind the 5 crappy photos. Fingers crossed the buyer gets what he/she expected.
