Too bad it hasn't had a bit more attention to detail. The right side mirror is in the wrong spot, the Weltmeister decal in the window lists 69, 70 and 71 in a 1969 car. (time travel, or just extreme confidence?) Last is the euro turn signal lenses on unmodified US housings, which is a pet peeve of mine.
    Another added tart:
No Fuchs listed on the window sticker and they're flat Fuchs, not period correct deep sixes.
And they are later ring cap flats as well. Note the holes in the caps.

    BaT Description:

This 1973 Porsche 911T Targa was owned in California for many years before moving in the 1980s to Iowa, where it was acquired by the seller in April 2015. The car is powered by its original 2.4L flat-six, which has been fitted with Weber carburetors and is mated to a Type 915 five-speed manual transaxle. Additional features include 15″ Fuchs wheels, MSD electronic ignition, and Turbo-style valve covers. Work performed during the seller’s ownership included rebuilding the carburetors, adjusting the valves, mounting new tires, installing a new alternator, replacing the battery and spark plugs, refurbishing the targa top, and refinishing the wheels. This 911 Targa is now offered in Mesa, Arizona with a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity, tool kit and jack, owner’s manuals, spare parts, service records dating back to the 1980s, and a clean Iowa title in the seller’s name.

Originally finished in Signal Orange, the car was repainted in its current shade of ivory in the 1980s and also fitted with later-model 911 sideview mirrors. The seller had a “whale tail” rear spoiler removed and the decklid repainted. A new rear grille was also added along with chrome “sugar scoop” headlights rings. The targa panel was refreshed with new vinyl, insulation, and a headliner, and a polished targa bar cover was installed in lieu of an older body-color item. The fog lights are inoperable, and imperfections in the paint can be seen up close in the gallery below. A factory-style sideview mirror is included in the sale.

The 15″ Fuchs alloy wheels were refinished during the seller’s ownership and reinstalled with new aluminum lug nuts. 195/60 front and 205/60 rear Yokohama YK580 tires were manufactured in 2015. A spare Fuchs wheel with an older tire is stored in the front trunk. Maintenance carried out during the seller’s ownership included rebuilding or replacing the brake calipers, as well as installing new wheel bearings, brake pads and rotors, and brake lines. The brake master cylinder will be replaced prior to the end of the auction according to the seller.

The interior was reportedly reupholstered in tan in the 1980s. Interior work performed during the seller’s ownership included recovering the door panels, steering wheel, and rear parcel shelf, as well as replacing the window crank handles, dashboard knobs, driver door stop, and vinyl dash trim. The door pouches were also refurbished, electrical sorting was performed, the clock was repaired, new Coco mats were installed, and the shift linkage was replaced by Stuttgart Southwest German of Tempe, Arizona. Cracks are noted on the dash cover.

Instrumentation includes an 8k-rpm tachometer and 150-mph speedometer. The five-digit odometer shows 20k miles and has rolled over. About 8k miles have been added by the seller during five years of ownership, including a road trip from Iowa to Arizona. The oil level gauge will need to be calibrated, and a removed air conditioning system that was fitted under previous ownership is included in the sale. The passenger door lock is inoperable.

The 2.4-liter flat-six received a top-end rebuild and clutch replacement at Bruch Motorwerke of Iowa City, Iowa, in 1987 at 64,000 miles, and 40mm Weber carburetors were fitted in 1990. The chain tensioners were replaced and Turbo-style valve covers were added in 1996. An MSD electronic ignition was installed during the seller’s ownership, as was a new battery, alternator with internal voltage regulator, oil pressure sending unit, distributor cap and rotor, fan belt, spark plugs and wires, fuel pump and lines, and a PMO fuel pressure control unit. Oil changes were reportedly also performed every 2k miles, and service in February 2020 included a leak-down test and a carburetor re-jetting by Beck European of Scottsdale, Arizona.

Power is sent to the rear wheels via a Type 915 five-speed manual transaxle. The car is currently fitted with an aftermarket sport pipe and a factory muffler is included in the sale. Rust is noted in front of each battery box. The Porsche Certificate of Authenticity lists the factory colors and equipment. Engine stamp *6130484* can be seen in the gallery and matches the number shown on the CoA. Owner’s manuals are included in the sale, along with a binder of service records dating back to 1981. A list of work performed during the seller’s ownership can be seen in the gallery, and cold-start and driving videos are view-able.

    Dealer Description:

In 2014, this gorgeous antique underwent a full frame-off restoration including the engine and drivetrain, top end, 2 Weber carbs, brakes and lines, and the front and rear suspension. The beautiful Tangerine base coat is flawless, as is the clear coat. This Targa also boasts a luxurious black leatherette interior that seats four. The Fuch wheels have been restored but are original to the car. We have file photos showing the complete car restoration.

This soft window model was only offered for three years from 1967 to 1969. In 1969 there were approximately 250 produced. Offered only that year, the long wheel base makes it rarer still.

This is hands down the finest example of a Porsche 911 that we have seen. A true icon!

    Dealer Description:

The Certificate of Authenticity states that the car was delivered with the engine it retains and quotes supply in this color, as well as confirming that the black leatherette and corduroy seats are original. Other options included Comfort Equipment, Light Metal Wheels and Michelin tires. Completed in July 1970, the 'T' Targa is supported with important and interesting documents which trace original ownership in Germany as per its Fahrzeugbrief where it was delivered new to a Dietbald Krautle of Welfshalde on September 6, 1970, who kept the car for exactly one year, selling it then to Klaus Rampercer on September 6, 1971.

At some point it migrated to North America in the 1980s, a journey which is recorded by a handful of Polaroids showing the car being containerized. This 911 T was acquired by the previous owner in 2012 on the West Coast.

As viewed today, the Porsche has an unmistakable honesty to it, of particular note is the interior which is a combination that in preference to leather provides warmth and comfort in all seasons, versus the 'over hot' or 'over cold' of hide. Those interior seats show some age, but not excessive wear and the dash in particularly good condition. In addition to the noted papers a period handbook and wallet are also on file. Having benefitted from a high quality repaint in late 2019 and a full carb rebuild, fluid service, and suspension service in January 2020 this well sorted Targa is ready to enjoy.

US$86,990 was the listed price. It would be nice to know the VIN so we can track the car in the future or look for past posts/threads.
