Auction Description:

The Feldhorn Collection's striking 1972 911 T Coupe was completed at the Porsche factory during July of 1972 sporting the one-year-only Ölklappe (external oil filter). The new 911 was finished as it appears today in Gemini Blue Metallic, with the interior trimmed in Beige Leatherette. The car was equipped for the U.S. market and optioned with Fuchs alloy wheels, front and rear stabilizers, front spoiler, white fog lights, comfort equipment, wheel arch trim, and rear bumpers with impact protection; all documented by the Porsche-issued Certificate of Authenticity on file. Reading through the car's impressive history file one will find the original maintenance book recording Picard Porsche of Smithfield, Rhode Island selling the new 911 in November 1972 to first owner Donald Herbert of Cranston. A copy of the original sales invoice is also on file, and maintenance is recorded at Picard Porsche up through the 1970s.

By the early 2010s, the Gemini Blue 911 was owned by Southern California enthusiast Eddie Swanenburg, who in 2014, entrusted Porsche specialist Aase Motors of Fullerton, California to do a full engine rebuild of the original, matching-numbers engine, and appropriately upgrading it to 2.7-liters with Mahle pistons and cylinders; all work which can be done to these engines without disrupting the original engine case. The cylinder heads were ported for better flow, while the camshafts and MFI fuel injection system were upgraded to “S” specifications. The original matching-numbers 915 transmission was also rebuilt during this time with new bearings and synchros, while proper Recaro sports seats were sourced and trimmed in Beige. Receipts for this work are on file, and following the recommissioning, the 911 was shown at the 2014 Monterey Porsche Parade, where it scored an impressive 3rd in class.

The Feldhorns acquired the 911 from Mr. Swanenburg in 2015, and has subsequently had Porsche specialist N.A.R.W. of Reseda, California look after the car, for which receipts are on file totaling more than $10,000 in maintenance and service work during their ownership. Today this desirable matching-numbers 1972 911 presents in beautifully restored condition inside and out, with spectacular shine to the as-delivered Gemini Blue Metallic paint with driving lights still in place out front. The 1972 model year was the penultimate production year for the pure, “long-hood” 911 model, featuring the better 915-type transaxle and the sole year featuring the “Ölklappe” external oil filler, making it among the most collectible variants of the long-hood 911 models ever made.

I understand there are some extraordinary examples of our beloved longhood cars. Just shocked to see this sell for more than every Ess car on the market. And she’s a T. I’m a softy for T’s but holy cow.
