    BaT Description:

This 1971 Porsche 911T is a driver that retains its original engine #6119546 backed by a later 915 transaxle. The seller purchased the car in September 2013 and believes the previous owner had it since at least 1980. He has driven it around 2500 miles in three years. Following a September, 2015 run-in with a deer, bodywork was performed at a restoration shop and included repairs to the right front fender, door, and quarter panel. Rust repair was performed forward of the fuel tank at the same time. This car features a partially modified interior using later Porsche seats and door panels. It was recently tuned up and had its Weber carburetors rebuilt last year. The car is sold with a Porsche CoA and a clean New York title.

Originally gold, this car was painted silver before the seller’s ownership. It is believed to have been an engine and windows-out repaint as the seller cannot find evidence of the original color. At the time of the accident repair, new front turn signal assemblies and taillight lenses from Stoddard were fitted and the “sugar scoop” headlight rings were replaced. The rusted headlight buckets were replaced at the same time. The seller believes the car was hit at some point in the past, citing an ill-fitting rear decklid. The mag wheels fitted above are included with the sale. The fitted Fuchs are non original, but are correctly date-coded. The seller notes that they could stand to be refinished. Some rust bubbles are present on the bottom of the driver’s door and around the fuel filler. The passenger’s side of the car has been restored and is said to be free of rust.

This car is fitted with A/C, which appears to be a Delanair system. Door panels and carpets are from a later 911. The seats feature cloth Porsche-script centers and appear to be from a 944, though they carry a 928 part number. Original-type seats and correct rails are included. An aftermarket radio and speakers are installed, as is a later electrically-controlled speedometer dated 8/84. 26K miles shown on the odometer are not an accurate lifetime total. The oil temperature and pressure gauges stick, though a tap on the glass is said to free them. The seller states all other instrumentation works. There are some waves in the dash, but cracks are only apparent in the speaker covers. Later 911 door panels looks to be from an SC, and the driver’s side door pocket is included but not fitted. Rear speakers are mounted above the original parcel shelf.

The 2.2L engine is original, though the transmission is a later 915 transaxle with a provision for an electronic speed-sender. It is pictured here with the stock air cleaner removed. Third and fifth gear synchs are reported to be worn and the seller believes the oil tank to be a larger capacity item from a later 911. Weber carburetors were rebuilt in the winter of 2015. Records show that a top-end rebuild was performed in 2005, and included the addition of a late model oil pump and a new sump cover. Receipts showing the parts replaced are available. The car is fitted with Carrera tensioners. It also benefits from a recent tune-up, and SSI heat exchangers. Receipts showing the parts replaced are available. The car is fitted with Carrera tensioners. It also benefits from a recent tune-up, and SSI heat exchangers. The rest of the pan looks dry, there is rust on various suspension and chassis parts.

There is the COA showing the original specification. This 911T looks like an affordable longhood driver with its original engine.

    Auction Description:

This original right-hand drive, UK-delivered Porsche 911 2.4 T was first registered in 1972 and was specified in the ‘groovy' colour of Royal Purple. Showing just 54,566 miles on the speedometer, it was discovered by our vendor as a sound and complete restoration project. Whilst the mileage could not be fully substantiated, the vendor believed it to be genuine and set about a ground up restoration 2 years ago.

Almost every single component of the car was stripped to a bare shell and rebuilt over many hundreds of hours by the vendor's in-house mechanics. The engine, gearbox, and differential were then fully rebuilt and the bare shell E-coated and finished in its original colour of Royal Purple. The interior has been fully re-trimmed and the whole car has been reassembled with great attention to detail. A significant number of bills and receipts can be found in the history file for parts alone, along with a CD containing photographs of the process.

The history file also contains a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity confirming this is a matching numbers 911 2.4 T. In addition, there are a number of older MoT certificates and service invoices supplied with the vehicle. Offered at public auction for the first time in many years, we welcome pre-sale inspections and are delighted to be offering such an interesting Porsche 911 from the pre-impact bumper heyday.

    - Porsche Certificate of Authenticity

This beautiful 1973 Porsche 911T is a numbers-matching car that has been restored to an extremely high standard. The color combination is absolutely stunning in its Gulf Blue body with a black leatherette interior, contrasted by Pepita Houndstooth cloth inserts on the seats. Purchased new at the famous Vasek Polak dealership in Hermosa Beach, California, this car has remained in the Golden State for its entire 43-year life with just three loving owners. The second owner was Betty Madden—a costume designer for Paramount Studios—who owned the car for 34 years and was fastidious in the maintenance and care of her 911T. The current owner appreciated the originality and the condition of the car and deemed it to be the ideal foundation for a comprehensive restoration. The year 1973 is regarded by many knowledgeable enthusiasts to be a landmark of Porsche production. It was the very last year of the long-hood/small-bumper style of 911 that would be replaced by the short-hood/big-bumper cars starting in 1974. It was the recipient of a plethora of both large and small improvements that took place since the 911 first appeared in 1964 and yet it still retained the original classic body shape features. This car was ordered with a number of desirable options including Carello fog lamps, Blaupunkt radio, Fuchs alloy wheels and exterior appearance group. This 911T is documented with the original sales invoice, service records while under the custodianship of Betty Madden and a full pictorial/invoice-history file during its restoration. The Porsche also comes with a set of custom-made fitted luggage in matching houndstooth, the owner’s manual, warranty booklet, tool kit, jack, spare assembly and a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity.
