    Petrolicious Description:

This 1973 Porsche 911T Targa is a midyear model that features the Bosch K-Jetronic Continuous Injection System (CIS). This numbers-matching Targa has benefited from a ground-up, nut-and-bolt restoration performed by Makellos Classics of Escondido, California.

The restoration (full photos included at the end of the listing) included a complete dismantling of all glass and panels, as well as disassembly of the full interior and powertrain. Rust was minimal, and the only panels requiring replacement were the doors. The replacements are authentic Porsche pieces, and all panels were fitted for correct gaps prior to paint.

The car was professionally repainted in its original nonmetallic Chartreuse Green, which Porschephiles will recognize as an extremely rare factory color. All lighting equipment, trim, and brightwork is original to the car unless the pieces were too damaged to reuse, in which case genuine Porsche replacements were sourced and installed. All rubbers seals, gaskets, and squeegees were replaced in addition to a new Targa roof panel vinyl by Escondido Custom Upholstery.

The Fuchs wheels have been restored to their factory look by a process of hard anodizing and repainting. The greenhouse is comprised of the correct and original glass, which remains in excellent condition with no cracks or scratches to note. The interior was reupholstered from the carpets to the door panels, the dashboard to the seat covers, and is complete with all factory switchgear and accessories, all of which function properly.

The engine and transmission are numbers-matching units original to the car, and were rebuilt to factory specifications in-house by Makellos Classics’ certified Porsche technicians. The car starts, idles, and drives as if it just rolled off the assembly line, offering plenty of power with the build quality and solid German reliability Porsche is known for.

Body – The body is accident and corrosion free, and it is original with the exception of Porsche-sourced replacement doors and seat pans. Panel fitment is excellent throughout.
Paint – Repainted in early 2017, the Chartreuse Green respray is of the highest quality, with exceptional shine and no imperfections. The color is quite unique as well, always changing hue in varying light and shadows which will surely put a smile on your face.
Trim & Glass – All brightwork has been cleaned and polished or replaced with factory-correct pieces where required. The original glass is clean and free of any nicks, cracks, or scratches.
Wheels – The 15-inch Fuchs wheels were hard anodized and then repainted to their correct OEM style. 185/70 section retro-styled new Michelin tires are on all four corners, and provide reassuring modern grip while maintaining a period-correct look.
Targa Top – Escondido Custom Upholstery was hired to rewrap the original Targa top frame in the factory-style vinyl. Fitment is spot on and ensures a watertight seal.

Steering Wheel – The original four-spoke steering wheel received a new leather wrap and appears like-new.
Dashboard & Instrumentation – The dash pad was replaced with a new genuine Porsche unit and the original VDO dials are clean, clear, and fully functional.
Seats, Trim & Carpet – The seats were rewrapped in new black leather covers with new but era-correct black and white houndstooth centers. The carpeting and door panels were also replaced with the correct materials. All switchgear and accessories are clean, complete, and in good working order.

Engine – The 2.4-liter CIS flat-six was completely dismantled and rebuilt to factory specifications by Makellos Classics’ certified Porsche technicians.
    Original Motor: Yes.
    Engine Number: Available upon request.
The Drive: The engine fires from cold starts eagerly, the idle is rock steady, and it revs in that perfect hollow metallic tone only a Porsche flat-six can deliver.

Transmission – The 915 five-speed manual transmission was also completely dismantled to have its internals inspected. All synchros were replaced and the transmission was rebuilt.
    Original Transmission: Yes.
    Gearbox Number: Available upon request.
The Drive: The five-speed shifts easily, gliding between gears smoothly during changes with no gear engagement resistance or pop-out issues.

Handling – All drivetrain components were replaced with factory-spec replacement components to revitalize the original handling characteristics these early lightweight longhood cars are renowned for.
The Drive: The car is a real gem to drive, with excellent feedback from all controls, a smooth singing flat-six, buttery five-speed manual, and light but direct steering feel.

Aside from the door panels and seat pans, the body of this 911T is entirely original. The restoration was executed with great care to ensure a correct fit and finish throughout. Restored to its original build sheet specifications, this 1973 Porsche 911T Targa sports a rare color combination that is actually correct to the car, and it makes this a total ’70s period piece. The Chartreuse Green color really pops in the sun and compliments the Targa design and houndstooth interior beautifully.

    BaT Description:

This 1971 Porsche 911T Targa is finished in Silver Metallic over black leatherette and is powered by a numbers-matching 2.2L flat-six paired to a 5-speed manual transaxle. It is equipped with a set of black Fuchs-style wheels and aftermarket air-conditioning and was recently acquired by the selling dealer. The car runs and drives but could use some work to make it a turnkey driver, which include some outlying transmission issues that prevent it from engaging first gear. It is now being offered for sale with a Porsche CoA and a clean New York title.

According to the seller, the body has received an older repaint in its original Silver Metallic shade. Blemishes in the finish are detailed in the gallery along with a rust bubble on the lower portion of the driver-side fender. Originally optioned with 14” light metal wheels, this example has been fitted with a set of 15” black Fuchs-style wheels wrapped with Michelin Defender XT tires. Gold Porsche badging was added to the rear decklid, and the black targa panel.

The black leatherette seats show some wear along the driver-side outer piping and seam separation on the driver’s seat bottom. Salt and pepper carpeting is retained and shows its age in photographs. A Pioneer Cassette stereo was installed along with an aftermarket Coolaire A/C system. 60,836 miles are shown on the odometer.

The 2.2L flat-six is backed by a 5-speed manual gearbox. Per the seller, the car will not shift into first gear, but all other gears function properly. No service records are available and its maintenance history is unknown. The engine number is 6117576, which matches the Porsche CoA. Overspray is evident on the undercarriage. An included Porsche Certificate of Authenticity lists the optional equipment and confirms the matching engine number and factory colors.

    BaT Description:

This 1971 Porsche 911T was delivered new to an American serviceman in Germany with US equipment, noise suppression, and comfort equipment. The second owner purchased the car in 1975 from Atamian Porsche in Massachusetts. The current owner acquired the car from the second owner in 1978 and has added around 25k miles since, including regular participation in PCA and SCCA events at several Northeast tracks during the late 1970s and early 1980s. After being stored for several years, the car was recently refurbished over a four year period beginning in 2013. Work consisted of a bare metal repaint in Irish Green by Crown Collision Center of Pawtucket, Rhode Island, as well as a rebuild of the 2.2-liter flat-six by German Motors of Providence, Rhode Island. The engine is mated to a 5-speed manual transaxle and was fitted with new bearings, timing chain, upgraded tensioners, and more. A new brake master cylinder was also installed along with rebuilt calipers and a new fuel tank. This 911T is now being offered in Rhode Island on behalf of the current owner. The sale includes some records back to the 1970s, receipts from the refurbishment, a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity, and a clean Massachusetts title.

Cosmetic work consisted of disassembling the car, stripping it to bare metal, repairing any rust using metal patches, and then applying a two-stage finish in the original Irish Green (15). The bodywork was completed by Crown Collision Center of Pawtucket, Rhode Island as part of a barter agreement with the owner, a dentist. New stainless rocker panels were left off when the bodywork was completed, though they are included with the car. The larger side mirror was added in the 1970s when the current owner was regularly participating in driving events, and the 15″ Fuchs wheels wear new 165-series Vredestein Sprint Classic tires.

The Beige leatherette interior was removed during the repaint before being refreshed and reinstalled by Quonset Motor Sport of North Kingstown, Rhode Island. The interior is believed to be original apart from a stereo with a cassette player that was installed in the 1980s. The seller notes that the speaker panel is cracked. The odometer shows 91k miles and is believed to be correct based on the included records.

The 2.2L flat-six is mated to a 901 5-speed manual transaxle and has been rebuilt by German Motors of Providence, Rhode Island. The work was completed in 2017 and included installing new bearings, gaskets, timing chain, upgraded tensioners, and more as documented in the records.

German Motors also rebuilt the brake calipers, replaced the master cylinder, and flushed the brake fluid. A new fuel tank was also installed.

The Porsche CoA shows the factory options and indicates that the original engine was #6117729. The stamping for the engine in this example is #6117728. The owner believes that the engine and transmission are original to the car and that the Porsche CoA has a clerical error of 1 digit.

    Seller's Description:

This Sportomatic 2.2 T has 70,xxx miles. It has been sympathetically refreshed and drives just like a 70,000 mile car should. I have owned the car for just around 10 years...
The contrasting factory color combination of Irish Green exterior and Tan interior looks fantastic.
The VIN as pictured is 9111112282 for reference... The car is considered to be “perfect” and “complete”....
The car was restored a few years back by CPR Classic in Fallbrook California... If any of you know CPR you know the detail and time they take during restoration to make these cars beautiful and better than factory.... The original dash is crack free and the original knurled screws still secure the engine bay relay panel.
This car is a rare find for those seeking a Sportomatic, which performs flawlessly and is a pleasure to drive.
Please let me know if you have any questions... Price is negotiable...

I know this car and spent some time going over it. I bought a pristine 85 Carrera from owner and had the opportunity to see it while it was stored properly in an A/C garage. Great collector car, last yr of the longhoods and great color.

    Hammer price was a stunner.

    For the record:

    VIN 9113112251
    Engine 6136008

... would have been among the first of the CIS cars, by my reckoning
