    Independence day quizz...

"What type of ID plate is this?"...Doug, it looks so familiar and I have been thinking of it on/off today...it just dawned on me....I believe it's a photo of one of the two "over sprayed" license plate lights mounted on an early rear decklid for illumination of the license-plate(shine down)...I don't have an "early" car at home right now but I look tomorrow ...let's see if any other "nuts" recognize it......Thanks.../ Lars...

Maybe it's not so much overspray, more a protective coating to preserve the car's originality

Gentlemen, thank you for your careful observation to identify what I thought was a id plate. I should have figured that out by the Hella logo.

That's of less concern now that the dealership has removed the sport seats(!)

    BaT Description:

This 1973 Porsche 911T is a Sepia Brown example that was recently pulled from the garage of its second owner, where it had reportedly resided since the late 1980s. The car is equipped with a numbers-matching 2.4-liter MFI flat-six and 915 5-speed transaxle, and left the factory optioned with Koni shocks, a rear stabilizer bar, and more as displayed on the included Porsche Certificate of Authenticity. Mechanical service performed in December 2017 included an engine-out reseal, valve job, gearbox overhaul, new clutch, and more. This 911 is now being offered with factory literature, records from the recent service, and a clear Arizona title in the seller’s name.

Sepia Brown paint is shown in several meter reading photos in the gallery below along with small imperfections highlighted by the seller, who indicates that paintwork has been performed on the lower edge of the passenger side door. The car retains US-spec black bumperettes and sealed beam headlamps along with black horn grilles, a chrome driver-side flag mirror, and a set of AAMCO-style bumper bars. New Michelin XWX tires were installed on the 15″ Fuchs alloys in 2017, and a matching spare resides in the front compartment.

The cabin is reported to retain factory controls, instruments, and upholstery. Noted imperfections include deformation on the driver-side seat cushion, a partially inoperable Blaupunkt Frankfurt radio, and cracking of the dash pull-switches. Approximately 92k miles are shown on the odometer, 250 of which have been added by the seller.

This example is one of 1,252 produced in 1973 with mechanical fuel injection, which would be superseded by the Bosch K-Jetronic system later in the model year. The 911/51 2.4-liter flat-six was specific to the US market and factory output was rated at 140 horsepower when new. The engine was removed and resealed in December 2017, at which point new Mahle piston rings were also installed and the valves and seats were reground. The 915 5-speed manual gearbox was also removed during the 2017 service and fitted with new synchronizers for gears one, two, and three. New gaskets and input, output, and shift shaft seals were installed during reassembly. The fuel tank has also been flushed, and the brake system has been filled with fresh fluid.

Engine stamping is #6130161 and the transaxle case stamping is #7330217. Both match the included Porsche Certificate of Authenticity. The recently-obtained Porsche Certificate of Authenticity shows a production date of August 18, 1972 and confirms the original configuration. A factory tool kit and glove compartment books have been retained. Stampings from authorized Porsche dealers are present in the maintenance booklet between 10k and 70k miles, with the final stamping in 1981. Records from the recent mechanical service are included with the sale.
