Easy - you slap an RS front on it, and some Recaro seats. Presto. You now have an "S".

Unfortunately, a redheaded step-child that has been to a few auctions already. I know I'm in the minority, but I do like the look of cookie cutters on a '73.

    Auction Description:

The smart 1973 911T 2.4 offered here was produced near the end of the 1973 model-year run, and therefore received the upgraded CIS fuel injection system, and would be referred to a 1973.5 911T. The Porsche was completed at the Zuffenhausen-based works looking much as it does today, finished in a sparkling Gold Metallic color over a black leatherette interior and charcoal carpets. Equipped for the Canadian market, the 2.4 CIS T was heavily optioned with a long list of factory optional extras, including electric sun roof, power windows, the "Cookie-cutter" light metal wheels shod on Dunlop tires, chrome fender treatment, Blaupunkt Lubeck cassette radio, comfort equipment and tinted glass all around.

Today, this classic 1973 911T 2.4 CIS Coupe presents beautifully throughout. The car retains its original, matching numbers engine, and the original chassis tags are still present. The headliner and much of the bright work remain original and untouched and speak for the mild California climate this Porsche has resided in for some time. This Gold Metallic long-hood 911 Coupe has some exciting features and is ready for its next enthusiastic owner. It is offered with its Porsche-issued Certificate of Authenticity and would be a spectacular car to take on rallies and tours, such as the Copperstate 1000.

    BaT Description:

This 1969 Porsche 911T Targa is finished in Bahama Yellow over black and was purchased new in Germany by the original owner, with whom it remained until his passing in 2007. The car was moved to Arizona in the late 1990s, and it was acquired by the current owner from the original owner’s widow more than a decade ago. Over $13k in mechanical refurbishment was subsequently performed, and the car has been driven approximately 4,300 miles while being kept as part the current owner’s collection. Power is provided by the numbers-matching 2.0-liter flat-six, which is mated to a Type 901 5-speed manual gearbox. The original owner had the car serviced at the Porsche factory in Stuttgart, and more than $7k was recently spent at Patrick Motorsports in Phoenix on rebuilding the transmission and replacing valve cover gaskets, fuel lines, and more. This 911T Targa is now being offered on dealer consignment with a tool kit, the factory maintenance booklet, German manuals, receipts back to 1992, and a clean Arizona title.

The Bahama Yellow finish was reapplied in 1995 while the car was still in Germany, and this 911 has been garaged with the current owner’s collection since 2007. 15” Fuchs wheels wear 195/65 Dunlop SP Sport 2000 tires, and the brakes were overhauled during the 2007 work. The vinyl-wrapped targa panel is shown up close in the gallery below, including a tear on the leading edge.

The speedometer was converted to mph by the current owner in 2007 at 122k kilometers (~76k miles), and the original gauge face is included. Around 4,300 miles have been added by the current owner, and 80,040 miles are currently indicated. A later-model Porsche cassette radio was installed at some point, and the dash was recovered in 2008. Aftermarket floor mats have been added. Seats are equipped with headrests and upholstered in black vinyl. The seller states that the covers show some wear but remain in good shape, though the padding beneath feels soft.

The front trunk houses a 15″ spare wheel, a tool roll, grey trunk carpet, and a targa panel storage bag. The 1,991cc flat-six is mated to a Type 901/13 gearbox, which was recently rebuilt as part of a $7,800 service performed by Patrick Motorsports. New fuel lines and valve cover gaskets were also installed, and the work is further detailed on an itemized invoice. 2007 service at Zuffenhausen Motors in Scottsdale, Arizona involved replacement of the clutch and heat exchangers, inspection of cam chain tensioners, and an overhaul of the braking system. Stamping 6192181 can be seen above and matches the number on the factory service booklet, confirming the engine as original. Included receipts date back to 1992, and the original owner’s records show service at the Porsche factory in Stuttgart, including the 1995 repaint. A collection of manuals in German are included along with the original Pflegepass, which records serial numbers and early services.

    BaT Description:

his 1972 Porsche 911T was originally sold at Niello Porsche in Sacramento and was acquired by its third and current California owner in 1988. The 2.4-liter flat-six is equipped with Weber carburetors and is mated to a non-original 5-speed manual transaxle. A repaint was performed from the original Metallic Blue to Alpine White in 1990, and an interior refresh has also been completed. Approximately 55k miles were added under current ownership, and though the car has reportedly been driven sparingly in recent years, it was serviced about two months ago by Ben Salerno of Salerno Motorsports. This 911T is now being offered for sale on the current owner’s behalf with its original blue plates, owner’s manual, factory window sticker, a set of cookie cutter wheels, a number of spare parts, partial records, a Porsche CoA, and a clean California title.

Originally finished in Metallic Blue, the car underwent a bare-metal repaint in 1990 in its current shade of Alpine White. Work included the installation of new bumper moldings, rubber, and anodized aluminum trim. 15×6” Fuchs wheels wear a newer set of Kumho Ecsta 205/60 tires, and five 15×6” cookie cutter wheels are included in the sale along with a set of Zelmot H4 headlamps and rings. Note the single-year external oil filler door on the passenger-side rear fender.

The cabin was reupholstered in black leatherette, and the headliner, carpets, and seat belts have been replaced. The original houndstooth seat inserts are no longer present, and a set of Lloyds floor mats line the foot wells. A Blaupunkt radio is retained in the dash, and a new head unit and speakers are included in the sale. Over 68k miles are shown on the odometer, which is thought to have rolled over once.

Marque specialist Dwight Mitchell reportedly rebuilt the numbers-matching 2.4-liter flat-six in 1988 with Weber carburetors and installed the 5-speed manual gearbox in place of the original 4-speed unit. An oil service was performed two months ago. Stamping #6124149 matches the CoA, confirming the engine as original. Service records from the current owner are included along with some receipts from the original owner. Maintenance has reportedly been performed at Autosport, IBP Autosport, and Salerno Motorsports for the last three decades. The Porsche Certificate of Authenticity shows a production date of July 1972 and lists the original colors along with the optional equipment. A number of new and used parts accompany the sale, including front bumper moldings, bumper guards, a front bra, firewall pad, oil tube, boot compartment material, and more.

    BaT Description:

This 1970 Porsche 911T Targa is a black over black example that was sold new in Vancouver, British Columbia and brought to Washington State by its original owner of 46 years. It was acquired by the seller two and a half years ago, and the numbers-matching 2.2-liter flat-six is mated to the original 4-speed manual gearbox. Approximately 1,000 miles have been added by the seller, and maintenance performed last year included new fluids, filters, and an alternator belt in addition to a repair of the targa top. This 911 is now being offered for sale with records beginning in 1984, a Porsche CoA, and a clean Washington title in the seller’s name.

This example retains its Canadian-market headlights, as well as its factory-optioned Halogen fog lights mounted both above and below the front bumper, a recently-repaired targa top. A repaint in the original shade of black (10) was performed by the previous owner after the vehicle was keyed. Rust is present in the front trunk and on the undercarriage as shown below. 15” Fuchs wheels wear a set of 205/65 Dunlop D60 tires.

The seller believes the driver’s seat has been reupholstered in vinyl, and a seam split is present in the leather passenger seat. A factory steering wheel and AM/FM stereo are retained, while aftermarket speakers have been installed in the interior panels. The 5-digit odometer currently indicates just under 41k miles and is believed by the seller to have rolled over twice.

Power comes from a 2.2L flat-six linked to a 4-speed manual transaxle. The seller replaced the alternator belt, engine and transmission oil, filters, and brake fluid last year. The engine and transmission were reportedly rebuilt approximately 75k miles ago at an odometer reading of 65k miles, and service records beginning in 1984 accompany the sale. The seller notes about five drips of oil leak from the engine onto his garage floor every week. Engine stamping is #6102576 and transmission stamping is #7000511. Both match the CoA provided, confirming them as original to the vehicle.

The Porsche Certificate of Authenticity lists a production date of April 1970 and confirms the factory colors, engine and transmission numbers, and optional equipment.

    BaT Description:

This 1973 Porsche 911T Targa was purchased by its previous owner in Arizona around 25 years ago and subsequently fitted with 3.2-liter flat-six from a 1989 Carrera, as well as a later 915 5-speed manual transaxle. A bare-metal repaint was also carried out, and additional modifications included SSI heat exchangers, 1985 Carrera front struts and brakes, Turbo tie rods, a Sachs clutch, lightweight pressure plate, stainless/teflon brake lines, and a brass-tube oil cooler in the front fender well. The seller purchased the car nine years ago and has used it during fair weather for his 10-mile roundtrip to work. He has also added an electric fuel pump, refreshed the steering wheel and door panels, re-padded and recovered the sport seats, and repainted the seat rails. This 911 is now offered in Washington State with a Covercraft interior cover, owner’s manual, a few recent records, and a clean Idaho title in the seller’s name.

A bare-metal repaint in the original color was completed years ago, and the Targa top was redone with new seals. The body seals were also replaced and the exterior emblems were anodized. Current exterior flaws are listed as a rock chip on the right side of the hood, a rub mark on the hood’s edge from one of the driving lights, and one cracked fog light lens. 16″ Fuchs alloy wheels have been added and are currently mounted with 205/55 series tires. The included Covercraft interior cover.

Inside, a pair of factory sport seats are fitted. They were re-padded and recovered during the seller’s ownership, and the door panels and steering wheel were also redone at the same time. The passenger headrest is missing, the radio and clock are inoperable, two dashboard cracks are present, and the carpeting is worn, particularly around the dead pedal area. A carpeted dash cover is included. The A/C system was removed prior to the seller’s purchase, though a few related components accompany the sale. The mechanical odometer currently shows 13,294 miles. The seller has added over 3,200 miles during the past nine years.

A 1989 3.2-liter flat-six with Motronic engine management was installed at around 90k miles along with a 915 transaxle from 1979. The SSI heat exchangers, 1985 Carrera front struts and brakes, Turbo tie rods, Sachs clutch, stainless/teflon brake lines, and brass-tube oil cooler were installed around the same time. An electric fuel pump was added in 2010, and an oil change was completed prior to this auction. Some recent records are included with the sale. The valve covers and timing chain covers have been powder coated blue.

    BaT Description:

This 1973 Porsche 911T was sold new in San Francisco and moved to Canada before being exported to the United Kingdom. The seller acquired it in the UK in 2012 after it had been repainted white and fitted with a 3.0-liter flat-six and Weber 40 IDS carburetors. Since then, the body, suspension, braking system, and interior have all been modified as described below. Power is sent through a 915 5-speed transaxle, and the car was imported back to the US by the seller in 2017. This Porsche is now being offered with maintenance and modification records since 2012, a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity, and a clean Florida title in the seller’s name.

The car was originally finished in Sepia Brown over beige leatherette according to the CoA. Since his purchase, the seller has added painted fiberglass front and rear bumpers, Plexiglass rear vent windows, 911R-style pastic door handles, and Porsche script decals along the lower rocker panel area. A previous owner added a 911S rear badge. The seller states that the white repaint remains in driver-quality condition with a few stone chips on the forward-facing surfaces and a burn mark from tire contact on one side.

Suspension modifications include Koni front shocks, a carbon fiber strut brace, larger-diameter torsion bars, and monoball shock top mounts up front, along with AVO adjustable shocks, adjustable spring plates, updated bushings, and larger torsion bars in the rear. The original braking system has been retained, and the calipers were rebuilt during the seller’s ownership. The 15” Fuchs alloy wheels wear 205-width Toyo Proxes R888 tires.

Inside, a pair of custom-trimmed Cobra RS seats with plaid inserts have been installed, along with matching plaid dashboard trim, a body-colored instrument surround wrap, Coco floor mats, a custom Moto Lita steering wheel, fire extinguisher, and a 917 replica wood shift knob. The doors are trimmed in matching vinyl with 911R-style door release straps. A lightweight battery and cut-off switch are located in the front trunk smuggler’s box. Currently the 5-digit mechanical odometer shows 615 miles and is believed to have turned over once. Included records date back to 2012, so total chassis mileage cannot be confirmed. Approximately 5k miles have been added by the seller over the past six years.

The air-cooled 3.0-liter flat-six (#6290672) features Weber 40 IDS carburetors with amber fiberglass air filter covers and amber racing “engine tins” as seen above. The engine and gearbox are suspended with rigid mounts and an RS engine support. A set of stainless steel headers and a Dansk exhaust system are also equipped as shown below. The heat exchangers have been removed, though the 915 5-speed transaxle has been kept stock to the seller’s knowledge, who states that the car hits redline at 135 mph in 5th gear.

An engine oil/filter change was completed around one year ago, and over 30 undercarriage pictures are displayed in the gallery. Per the included Porsche Certificate of Authenticity, this Porsche was completed in January 1973 finished in Sepia Brown over beige leatherette. Factory options are listed, and a stamp states that the car was re-registered in Great Britain with the noted license plate number.

    Auction Description:

    • Numbers matching, top-quality example with original interior and paint
    • Serviced by trained Porsche technicians
    • Only an approximate 52,000 actual miles of use
    • Excellent color combination and highly desirable Targa body style
    • Accompanied at auction with Porsche Certificate of Authenticity

This very original 1972 Porsche 911T Targa is a remarkable example with only some 52,000 actual miles. Like many other vintage cars, it was parked and unused for quite some time. It has since been given a review and refreshing of much of the mechanical components by Porsche factory trained technicians; however, the paint and interior are original to the car. Being a 1972-model 911, it has the tell-tale, external oil filler located on the rear quarter panel, intended by Porsche to improve weight distribution; today, this unique one-year-only feature makes it quite collectable. As offered, this 911T remains exceptional with all components looking nearly new, yet they are in original condition. The classic Tangerine/black livery, coupled with the brushed ‘Targa’ roof bar and polished Fuchs alloy wheels, ensures this well-loved 911 turns heads wherever it goes. Having just been thoroughly detailed, it is ready to be enjoyed as originally intended. Offered in great condition and quite rare today, this outstanding 1972 Porsche 911T Targa comes with a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity and will make a great addition to any collection.
