    1973 Porsche 911T Targa
We are excited to offer on behalf of one of our customers, this extremely well kept and highly original 1973 Porsche 911 Targa in beautiful tangerine orange.

For many years, 2shores has been offering selected first grade examples of collectible automobiles. This beautiful, classic Targa is one of those rare offerings!

This iconic Porsche 911 Targa came out of single ownership(!) just earlier this year. It was purchased brand new in Stuttgart, Germany by a US Army medical doctor, who drove it in Germany for a few years while stationed and then shipped it over to the US and never let go of it for 47 years! Being a medical professional, his attention to detail and accuracy not only showed in the care he took of this beautiful 911, but also in painstaking record-keeping.

This Porsche comes with the best and most complete history documentation, I have ever seen in 20 years. The thick file contains the original order form, personal communications with Porsche, service manual, receipts, brochures, German registration records, original hard copy photos from the 70’s of the car in Germany and so much more. Amazing!

Needless to say, this is a 100% correct and original, number’s matching 911. The car was partially restored in the 90’s in the US (of course all receipts and photos available) and has since enjoyed life as a contender in many Porsche events, drives and shows. The collection of trophies includes numerous first place finishes in PCA sponsored events.

The car is a really nice example with one repaint to original tangerine orange (018) over tan interior. The interior is finished in premium leather with one sport seat for the driver (as ordered new) and standard seat for the passenger.
The mileage is about 140k on the chassis and about 20k on the top end rebuild.

The car runs and drives fantastic and is a true joy. It has some little signs of road use, small little dents and imperfections but nothing that would require paint work.
Impossible to find a 48 year old vehicle with a better history.

Comes with correct spare, jack and tool bag.

Please study all the photos closely to evaluate the condition of this car!

Located in Reno, NV. Pre purchase inspections welcomed!

    Worldwide shipping gladly arranged!

    Price: $109,000.00

    1969 Porsche 2.0L 911T 'Sportomatic' Coupe
    RHD - Australian delivered
    VIN: 119100279
    Engine: 6193248
    Trans: ?
    Color: 6805 (Bahama)
    Mileage: 69,503km
    Sold for: A$115,000 + 5% commission = $A$120,750 (equivalent to: US$89,165)

    Australian delivered Porsche 911T ‘project’
    • Ideal candidate for further improvement
    • Factory Bahama Yellow with Houndstooth trim
    • Original Sportomatic car

Fresh from many years in storage, this exciting ‘garage find’ is a fabulous small bumper 911 in a great colour combination looking for a new owner to return the car to its former glory. Porsche Australia have confirmed the 911T is an original Australian delivered car that left the factory in the current shade of Bahama Yellow (paint code 6805) with black leatherette/basketweave upholstery (code 9822). Options included the Sportomatic transmission, chrome wheels hubs caps showing the Porsche emblem and Pirelli Cinturato tyres and a Becker radio. We understand the car was registered to Australian distributor Hamiltons as a demonstrator and was originally supplied to a farmer named Robinson, who lived near Bendigo in Victoria. Traded against a new Mercedes-Benz a year or so later, the Porsche then relocated to Sydney and has belonged to a number of NSW Porsche Club members over the years. The Porsche has a Vehicle Maintenance Record dating back to 1995 listing changes of ownership, mileage and major work performed. Our vendor took ownership of the Porsche over twenty years ago (at an indicated 42,200 kms) and regularly drove the car for about ten years, routinely maintained by Autohaus Hamilton in Sydney. Now showing 69,503 kms on the clock, the Porsche has suffered from a lack of use over the past decade and is now ripe for refurbishment. Aside from a later tape deck, the interior appears to be mostly original – pleasingly the car hasn’t been converted to a manual gearbox, as original Sporto 911s are becoming all too rare and it retains the original engine cases. Running a set of later ‘Cookie Cutter’ alloys (including the spare), the 911T comes with the Owner’s Manual, tool kit and jack and will be sold registered in NSW until May 2022.

    Seller's Description:

Late in the 1973 model production year, Porsche began installing Bosch's new CIS fuel injection system in the 911.
These models are referred to by Porsche enthusiasts as 1973 1/2 models, with the 1973 1/2 911T becoming the most desirable T variant in recent years.
When fitted with the CIS injection, the 2.4 liter engine developed a healthy 140hp and provided a smooth and reliable driving experience.
With this level of performance and style accented by the longhood, smaller bumper design (which would disappear by the end of 1973 production) it is no wonder why the 1973 1/2 911T models have become highly sought after by collectors and enthusiasts today.
Asking price reduced to $50k OBO
Currently in between Porsches. Sold my 73.5T Targa, now suffering from serious withdrawal symptoms. Attending Rennsport Reunion VI didn't really help getting over it.

    Auction Description:

    • Superb Pastel Blue colour scheme from new
    • Desirable EU-delivered example
    • Matching chassis and engine numbers
    • Desirable five-speed manual gearbox
    • Porsche Certificate of Authenticity

The Porsche certificate confirms this 2.2-litre 911T Targa was originally finished in Pastel Blue, how it is presented today, equipped with the desirable 5-speed gearbox, rear mirror passenger-side, comfort equipment and Recaro sports seats in beige leatherette.

The 2.2 T Targa was delivered new on 6th April 1970 to a Mr. Margueritis in Como, Italy, and we can only imagine what fun he had driving this beautiful sports car that stood out from the hoards of local FIATs and Alfa Romeos. The Porsche remained in that region (serviced in Milan) in the early 1970s and by June 1973 had covered 60.000 kilometres (service book on file). Circa 2016/2017 the car was professionally restored in Italy, the seats being changed from Recaro to the more comfortable alternative (restoration photographs on file). In April 2017, the Targa was purchased by the current Belgian owner, a Porsche enthusiast, who has spent more time and effort keeping it in excellent condition. He had the 15 inch Fuchs wheels restored in 2017 by Fuchs themselves at a cost of nearly €1,500; the related invoice is on file together with others from Porsche Centre Liège. Also a protection foil has been added to protect the paint from any stone chips. Having enjoyed the Targa for the last four years, the owner now feels the time is right to pass it on to the next custodian. The vendor advises us the car is an excellent runner and he is especially complimentary about the 2.2-litre carburetted engine, which is an absolute pleasure to drive. Fitted with original Blaupunkt radio, the car comes with Belgian registration documents; a copy of old its Italian registration documents; two sets of keys; and original Porsche pouch, Porsche certificate, Porsche Classic check (2017), toolkit, owner's manual, and its original service booklet.

    BaT Description:

This 1971 Porsche 911T is finished in green over black vinyl and is powered by a 2.2-liter flat-six paired with a five-speed manual transaxle. Equipment includes chrome 15″ steel wheels, electronic ignition, a Pioneer CD player, and aftermarket air cleaners. The car was refurbished cosmetically and mechanically under prior ownership and was acquired by the current owner in 2014. Service performed in preparation for the sale included an oil change and replacement of the spark plugs and fuel lines. This 911T is now offered by the seller on behalf of the owner with a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity and a clean Arizona title.

The owner states that the car was refinished in the factory Leaf Green during previous ownership. Details include black rubber moldings and bumper inserts, gold badging, and polished trim. Chrome 15″ steel wheels feature Porsche hubcaps and wear 185/65 Pirelli P4 tires. The car is equipped with Bilstein dampers and four-wheel disc brakes.

The cabin features front bucket seats that have been reupholstered in black vinyl with green and black Pepita cloth inserts. The rear seats are finished solely in black vinyl, and additional equipment includes a Pioneer CD player and Coco Mats. Noted flaws include a crack in the dash and separating steering wheel stitching. The four-spoke steering wheel frames a central 8k-rpm tachometer, a 150-mph speedometer, an analog clock, and two combination gauges. The five-digit odometer shows 7k miles, approximately 2k of which were added by the seller. Total mileage is unknown.

The 2.2-liter flat-six was factory rated at 125 horsepower and 130 lb-ft of torque. Aftermarket air cleaners and an electronic ignition system were reportedly added under previous ownership, and service in preparation for the sale is said to have included an oil change and replacement of the spark plugs and fuel lines. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a five-speed manual transaxle. Additional images of the underside are available in the gallery.

    BaT Description:

This Porsche 911T Targa is finished in orange over black and is powered by a 2.4-liter flat-six paired with a five-speed manual transaxle. Equipment includes CIS fuel injection, a removable black targa panel, polished 15″ Fuchs wheels, and a Blaupunkt AM/FM/cassette stereo with recording capability and a microphone. The car was reportedly sold new in Honolulu, spent time in California, and then returned to Hawaii, where it was acquired by the seller in 2019. A refurbishment is said to have been carried out in the 2010s, and service since the seller’s acquisition reportedly included rebuilding the brake calipers and replacing the brake hoses, pads, and rotors. This 911T Targa shows 93k miles and is now offered with factory literature and a clean Hawaii title in the seller’s name.

Its build tag notes the car being Tangerine Orange, and the seller states that the exterior was repainted after his acquisition. Features include a black roof panel, a stainless steel targa bar, chrome headlight surrounds, and black bumperettes front and rear. The seller notes signs of metal refurbishing work, and there is a patch in the floor under the rear seat. Door dings are present and depicted in the gallery.

Fuchs 15″ wheels show January 1973 manufacture dates and wear 185/65 Pirelli P4 tires. A matching spare wheel with a 2020 date-coded Uniroyal tire is mounted in the trunk. Braking is handled by four-wheel ventilated discs. The seller states that service since 2019 includes rebuilding the brake calipers and replacing the hoses, pads, and rotors.

The cabin is upholstered in black vinyl with matching trim and replacement carpets. Equipment includes an analog clock, a locking glove box, and a Blaupunkt cassette recorder with a microphone. The seller notes that the tape deck requires finesse to operate. There is a repair on the left side of the driver seat backrest and a crack in the dash pad.

The four-spoke steering wheel fronts a suite of VDO instrumentation that includes a 150-mph speedometer, a tachometer with a 6,250-rpm redline, and fuel level, oil level, oil temperature, and oil pressure gauges. The five-digit odometer shows 93k miles, 3k of which were added by the seller.

The 2.4-liter 911/91 flat-six features Bosch K-Jetronic fuel injection and produced 140 horsepower when new. Service in June 2021 reportedly included changing the oil and replacing the spark plugs, plug wires, and fuel injectors. The seller notes that the engine idles high until settling into its proper range and that there is no washer bottle or pump.

Power is sent to the rear wheels through a 915 five-speed manual transaxle. The seller notes that the gas tank has been replaced and that the exhaust is showing age. Additional photos of the underside are provided in the gallery. Manufacturer’s literature is included in the sale.

The car is located in Pinehurst, NC and comes with a clean, North Carolina title. The Kardex and COA are shown in the gallery.

The door plate shows the color code of 6854, a 1968 special order Metallic Dark Red. This Porsche was ordered with the optional Comfort Package interior. And is finished in tan and black leather. Power is delivered from a numbers matching 2.0 Liter engine through a 5 speed transaxle. The engine was disassembled, inspected, and reassembled in 2016. The engine compartment retains the original sound deadening pad which is intact. Additional pictures of the undercarriage are available in the gallery.

    Petrolicious Description:

This 1973 Porsche 911T Targa is a midyear model that features the Bosch K-Jetronic Continuous Injection System (CIS). This numbers-matching Targa has benefited from a ground-up, nut-and-bolt restoration performed by Makellos Classics of Escondido, California.

The restoration (full photos included at the end of the listing) included a complete dismantling of all glass and panels, as well as disassembly of the full interior and powertrain. Rust was minimal, and the only panels requiring replacement were the doors. The replacements are authentic Porsche pieces, and all panels were fitted for correct gaps prior to paint.

The car was professionally repainted in its original nonmetallic Chartreuse Green, which Porschephiles will recognize as an extremely rare factory color. All lighting equipment, trim, and brightwork is original to the car unless the pieces were too damaged to reuse, in which case genuine Porsche replacements were sourced and installed. All rubbers seals, gaskets, and squeegees were replaced in addition to a new Targa roof panel vinyl by Escondido Custom Upholstery.

The Fuchs wheels have been restored to their factory look by a process of hard anodizing and repainting. The greenhouse is comprised of the correct and original glass, which remains in excellent condition with no cracks or scratches to note. The interior was reupholstered from the carpets to the door panels, the dashboard to the seat covers, and is complete with all factory switchgear and accessories, all of which function properly.

The engine and transmission are numbers-matching units original to the car, and were rebuilt to factory specifications in-house by Makellos Classics’ certified Porsche technicians. The car starts, idles, and drives as if it just rolled off the assembly line, offering plenty of power with the build quality and solid German reliability Porsche is known for.

Body – The body is accident and corrosion free, and it is original with the exception of Porsche-sourced replacement doors and seat pans. Panel fitment is excellent throughout.
Paint – Repainted in early 2017, the Chartreuse Green respray is of the highest quality, with exceptional shine and no imperfections. The color is quite unique as well, always changing hue in varying light and shadows which will surely put a smile on your face.
Trim & Glass – All brightwork has been cleaned and polished or replaced with factory-correct pieces where required. The original glass is clean and free of any nicks, cracks, or scratches.
Wheels – The 15-inch Fuchs wheels were hard anodized and then repainted to their correct OEM style. 185/70 section retro-styled new Michelin tires are on all four corners, and provide reassuring modern grip while maintaining a period-correct look.
Targa Top – Escondido Custom Upholstery was hired to rewrap the original Targa top frame in the factory-style vinyl. Fitment is spot on and ensures a watertight seal.

Steering Wheel – The original four-spoke steering wheel received a new leather wrap and appears like-new.
Dashboard & Instrumentation – The dash pad was replaced with a new genuine Porsche unit and the original VDO dials are clean, clear, and fully functional.
Seats, Trim & Carpet – The seats were rewrapped in new black leather covers with new but era-correct black and white houndstooth centers. The carpeting and door panels were also replaced with the correct materials. All switchgear and accessories are clean, complete, and in good working order.

Engine – The 2.4-liter CIS flat-six was completely dismantled and rebuilt to factory specifications by Makellos Classics’ certified Porsche technicians.
    Original Motor: Yes.
    Engine Number: Available upon request.
The Drive: The engine fires from cold starts eagerly, the idle is rock steady, and it revs in that perfect hollow metallic tone only a Porsche flat-six can deliver.

Transmission – The 915 five-speed manual transmission was also completely dismantled to have its internals inspected. All synchros were replaced and the transmission was rebuilt.
    Original Transmission: Yes.
    Gearbox Number: Available upon request.
The Drive: The five-speed shifts easily, gliding between gears smoothly during changes with no gear engagement resistance or pop-out issues.

Handling – All drivetrain components were replaced with factory-spec replacement components to revitalize the original handling characteristics these early lightweight longhood cars are renowned for.
The Drive: The car is a real gem to drive, with excellent feedback from all controls, a smooth singing flat-six, buttery five-speed manual, and light but direct steering feel.

Aside from the door panels and seat pans, the body of this 911T is entirely original. The restoration was executed with great care to ensure a correct fit and finish throughout. Restored to its original build sheet specifications, this 1973 Porsche 911T Targa sports a rare color combination that is actually correct to the car, and it makes this a total ’70s period piece. The Chartreuse Green color really pops in the sun and compliments the Targa design and houndstooth interior beautifully.

Back again +11k miles and bored to 2.7L. In my opinion with modifications to its detriment (e.g. where did the original radio go?)
