    1969 911S targa VIN

I bought this very rough 69'S targa over a year ago and just picked it up a few days ago. The vin is 119310888. By the numbers, Porsche made 614 69'S targas. This car is definately a 911S. It has front and rear sway bars, S trim, guages, front oil cooler, original engine- #6391440, etc. I am leaning to the fact that this was a personal car for an associate of Porsche or maybe just a test or prototype car by using simple random #888. I can definately see that the rivits for both the front aluminum plate up front and the tag on the window pillar are original and never have been taken off. Interesting car...

Anyone have an idea how this is so? I have checked multiple sources and all say the production ran until #614 for the 69'S targa.

    69 S targa

That is very interesting. I have a 69S targa (419) and thought they stopped at 614 also. Have you asked for the COA from Porsche yet?

I noticed you are in Dallas, so am I. Do you have the car here yet? I will send you a PM.

Very strange indeed...those VIN stampings look original to me too. I would call up the certificate hotline: 1-800-PORSCHE (option 5) and ask if you can get a certificate with your VIN number, which you aren't sure is correct. They should at least be able to identify your number right over the phone. I would get a certificate on that one if the VIN is real...could be a unique car.

    From the eBay description:
"I personally think that this car was factory test vehicle or perhaps a prototype by using a number that was far out away from the last production 69'S targa #614 and by using an identical triple digit number or maybe it was Ferry's car! Please feel free to ask any questions."

I see you didn't really didn't follow through with much due diligence, but instead jumped to a wild conclusion.

This car is a U.S. delivered car. The Euro cars did not have the A pillar VIN. So this isn't a factory car.

I've always considered the glass to be half full...that is until I reached middle age and realized that it is actually half empty.

I think the $115 CoA fee would have been more than the purchase price of the car.

P.S. the old 190SL in the background looks interesting.
