In the early 1930’s Prof. Dr. F. Porsche began designs for a “people’s tractor” that utilized a revolutionary design. Unfortunately, WWII interrupted further production of this very functional tractor.

This very early and unbelievable unique design from day one (1934) already included a hydraulic coupling between engine and transmission. This was a distinctive design criteria and requirement of all Porsche-Diesel engines used in tractors until the last model produced in 1963. There was a special reason for this requirement. Engineers in the 1930’s believed that farmers in those days were not able to handle a clutch properly when shifting gears. Interesting!

However, the benefit is it makes these tractors extremely easy to drive and fun for first-timers. Many of my fellow Porsche buddies enjoy this affordable hobby and it really ads a lot flavor to many collections for not a lot of money.

Between 1953 and 1963, about 1,000 Porsche-Diesel tractors were sold in mostly the northeastern part of the U.S. but their high pricing did not make them very popular. Yet, they were extremely durable and many of them still exist and operate today.

Prices for Concours models start in the mid-teens and go all the way up to the low 20’s. The Juniors are especially popular because the parts are readily available, they are small and easy to store and they don’t require a bunch of maintenance.

This particular tractor was imported by a German farmer who moved to Chicago and brought his beloved Junior with him. Since he wasn’t using it for farming anymore, he did a complete and correct restoration. Many people tend to over restore these tractors with high gloss show quality automotive paint jobs…however, this restoration was done to exact specifications as it was delivered new…right down to the thick lacquer paint on the engine bonnet.

Included with the sale are the original key, owner’s manual, and German Title/Ownership records.

Imagine at your next picnic, firing up your Porsche tractor and taking the kids or grandkids around the block…you can’t imagine the smiles it will bring to their faces. Old or young, I think owning a tractor is great therapy! They never lose their value and bring hours of enjoyment!
