Ignition Overhaul - Need Recommendations on Wires, Plugs, Points

I have decided to give my RGruppe car a tune up and valve adjust. I am going to replace the plug wires, plugs, distributor cap, rotor, and points. My questions are simple:

What brand and type of wires have you guys used successfully for S motors?

What brand and type of plugs work the best in your experience?

Who has converted from the old style point system and are you happy with the result?

I would appreciate some experienced opinions for my "hotrod" so I can make the right choices with equipment. Thanks!

    Scott,

An important issue is to find someone with a Sun distributor machine. This will let you “run-in” your distributor after cleaning, rebuild and new points. An important feature is to get the distributor hot. After run-in, clean the new points.

All the other parts are new: cap, rotor, wires, plug connectors and sparkplugs.

A scope will tell if there is a CDI or ignition transformer issue. Make sure all the connections are clean and good. Look at Early-S-Man’s threads on Pelican.

    Best,
    Grady

I have no idea what you are talking about. Must be some other T6 pilot. Just kidding, I will disclose the story in due time. Now stay on topic J-P. Still looking for recommendations on my original questions.

    Scott:

We've had excellent luck using Bosch caps and rotors, Magnecor 8.5mm wires/connectors, Bosch W4CS or NGK B7EV plugs, and either stock points or the Pertronix ignitors.

Grady's point (no pun intended) about having your distributor checked out by someone with a Sun machine is sound advice as thats an effective way to ensure that the advance mechanism is functioning correctly.

    Hope this helps,
