    Summer in SoCal

I do a 'Car Night' almost every Thursday after work ... a different shop, business, home garage, collection. It's been go'n on locally for about 25 years... I've been do'n it for about 17...

Last Thursday was at Tommy Sparks's home garage... one of our favorites. His garage is one of the featured in the coffee table book "Dream Garages".

Tommy is one the original California hot rodders... one of the kids racing at Muroc Dry Lake when the Army Air Core at Edwards Air force Base kicked them off in '42... Tommy's been at it ever since....

When they finnally had a 'Hot Rod' class at Pebble Beach, Tommy was one of the first they called to judge....

On closer inspection this 'duce lakester' was a 'Newvo-retro' ... a newly build rod to look like the original...

BTW- If you think the scruffy looking kid by the duce looks familiar... you're right........

This is one of the first cars Tommy built and raced...

    It's a '40's midget with a flathead tractor motor in it ....

Tommy let this one go over 50 years ago, but kept track of it... about 2 years ago the owner sold back to Tommy and he just put it all back together...

Close to me in a Calabasas shopping center they have a 'cars and coffee' every Sunday... and a REALLY big gathering every last Sunday of the month....

I only hung out for a short time this morning ... too many new Corvettes, Farreris, Lambos, Vipers, Bemers, and Porsches for me...

But inbetween... there was a couple cars that caught my eye...

Afterwards I blasted up in the hills and stopped at one of my favorite view spots......

If it was clearer you'd be looking at the Pacific Ocean in the distance... Oh well, you can't have everything...

    Cheers,

Chuck, you are truly one of the real car guys. Ol' Barry ought to do a show on just you. Just to know about where to go every Thurs night and see the closet cars is very cool.

What a great car scene! Smoething for everyone to look at and admire.

Wow Chuck....thankyou for the scene update and pics. You guys are truly blessed with so much car activity and gorgeous rides out there. I love them all myself. My work is now slowing to the point that I can get out there and enjoy all there is to see and do as well. I'll be sure to post some pics from my adventures. BTW, you Cal guys don't have *all* the cool cars. While my area is not really a hotbed for Porsche activity, there's a ton of really cool stuff up here to see...
