    Insurance

I recently bought an early 911 in California. I'm currently a non-resident (living in Hong Kong) but will be moving to Cali in the next 12 months with my job.

I'm having trouble finding insurance for the vehicle while its in storage in California because I don't have a US driving license. I only have an International, UK & Hong Kong license.

I've tried a few insurance companies and they need (i) a US driving license and (ii) a second car in the States.

Does anyone recommend how I can get around this and have the car insured?

Does anyone know any specialist insurance brokers?

    Thanks.

    Safeco

Try Safeco. They have a much more relaxed classic car policy than most. Of course you will pay more for it, but is sounds like this will only be temporary until you get relocated and can find something less expensive and more permanent, such as Hagerty, Grundy, etc.

You can find a list of independent agents in the area of California to which you'll be moving on their website at www.safeco.com. These independent agents usually work with more than a dozen insurance companies and should be able to find something to cover a stored vehicle.

    LelandWest

    Bowdie,

In 2005 I was able to get insurance through Leland West (w/ a clean European driving license). They are based in Fresno, CA. The president (owner?) of that company Holly Bromberg is a Porsche 356 guy himself and helped me out. In the past he had done the same thing for a guy from down under.

I drove my 65/911 about 5000 mls cross country before it got into a garage in San Jose. This was all covered for about $300 (annual fee).

    Regards,

    Richard
