I read of this most important survey in the N.Y.Times a while ago. A initial list of 200 candidates was announced at the Amsterdan show Feb 1997. Opinions of 132 Journalists world wide presided over by Lord Montagu to make a list of all cars produced and reduce the candidates down to 100. Results were announced at Frankfurt 1997.Then further reduced to 26 cars and announced at Geneva Motor show March 1999.There after reduced to 5 cars and announced Frankfurt Sept 1999. A Porsche 911 was the only sports car in the final 5 cars eliminating such as Jaguar 120 & E type, Mercedes s/ss/ssk300sl and of course Ferrari that were included in the 26 finalists. No wonder early Porsche values are finally getting some respect. Had this been a Ferrari it still would be trumpted by the Ferrari affecionadios and their affiliate in lock step reporting every value tick ( read SCM ) magazines that proclaim their every virtue.
