    Pebble Beach Concours '07

Another top-drawer performance. Best weather ever, wonderful cars, "Aston - Martin & Duesenberg" were the the featured marques with some exceptional examples of each on display. The only way this could be significantly improved is for the selection committee to invite a Porsche or twenty, but Alas, another year goes by without one of Stuttgarts finest on the lawn. Never-the-less, what was there still was mighty impressive.

The few Porsches you will see were all there to be auctioned off and were displayed outside the concourse venue.

The 356 had a take-it-away tag of $125,000, the white RS was priced @ $450,000 if you wanted to buy it outright. A bit steep for a so-so RS. The RSR was priced at $850,000 and I believe actually went for $891,000.

Finally, we are now on the concours field. The yellow Duesenberg "Racer" went on to take "Best of Show". 1935 SJ based, supercharged, did a one-hour record of 145mph in '35. Pretyy special car.

For the devoted Ferraristi among us. Yes, that's Piero Ferrari, Enzo's second son and 10% owner of the firm. There were 17 Ferraris there, but nothing noteworthy.

and on we go to some pre-war iron.

    Bentley's famous No. 2

The even more famous Mercedes "Blitzen Benz", which broke every speed record there was to break before and after WWI (note exposed valve gear)

Well, if GTOs and Barchettas are not noteworthy, I must be on the the wrong Planet. Perhps those are 330 GTs with fiberglass bodies...

And a 340 America are in your photos. Yet in your words are, "nothing noteworthy".

One wonders what is noteworthy, an F40? Or a 348?

The Red GTO is Nick Mason's by the way. He used to race it in vintage events. I think I liked it better as a race car.
