    the Quail '07

As last year, I traveled up the coast with Mike and Diane Mascaro...
Starting Thursday morning we had a great drive through San Marcos Pass and Foxen Canyon to lunch in San Louis Obispo..... then up to Cambria for a relaxing afternoon and great dinner...

Starting off just before 7:00 am we had Coast HWY 1 pretty much all to ourselves from Cambria all the way to the Carmel Valley ....

This year, instead of his '74 Carrera or '95 993, Mike drove his Evo... talk about quick... not much chance of keeping up... ... but I gave gave it a good try...

This is the second year we've done the Quail, and we're convinced with the 3000 limit at the gate, and the 100 limit on the grass... with food and booze included... THIS might still be the best ticket for the weekend...

    ... more to come

    Background Cars

    Chuck,

While the cars in the foreground are eye candy, it's the two single seaters in the background that caught my eye. I presume the blue car in your third photo is the Scarab F1 (alas without the original desmodromic valve engine), but what about the Orange #26 in the 5th picture? It has a Lancia D-50"esque" headrest, but is missing the "squalo" side fuel tanks and the wheelbase looks too long for a F1 car and the wire wheels aren't right for a mid 50's American car. Is it an Italian something or other Indy Roadster? or what?

thanks for the info, if you have it.

    John,

You're right about the Scarab... although it might have had the original desmo motor... an acquaintance of mine, Ron Kellogg, had two of those crazy Offy looking motors I think he was selling...

I'm not sure about the orange roadster...
Ya'know, with all the things going on at the track it might have been one of the 'highbreds' they ran for the "Race of two Worlds"........ sorry didn't take a real good look

    Cheers,

    Chuck -

Oh, my !!! Is that the Bruce McLaren, Mark Donahue Ford Mark IV? Sure looks like the car entered by Shelby-American at LeMans in 1967 and placed 4th overall.

    Great pictures!

I saw Rolly's car at the track corral later in the weekend, do you have any details about that car? I was drawn straight to it!
