Shipping a transmission - how to?

    Hey, yawl...

I need to ship one of my 901 transmissions off to it's new home...
It's a relatively short run - from California (China Lake) to Bend, Oregon
I've never done this before, so, what would be the best way?

Any ideas? I can sure use some guidance here...I'd like to do this the right way.

    Thanks
    Cheers

Last 901 I purchased from Gary Emory (in McMinnville, OR) shipped to me in Ashland, OR (300 miles away?), he packed it in a big plastic tub, made by RubberMaid. Cardboard was wrapped and taped around the body and ends of the trans, lots of plastic bubble and cardboard so the trans was solidly packed in the tub. Tub lid was sealed and closed tub wrapped with lots of Duct Tape. It arrived in fine shape.

My only warnng: the only part in jeopardy when shipped this way is the throttle bellcrank rod that sticks out of the side ofthe trans. Make sure you remove this, or it WILL break off!

Competition Engineering used to ship me 912 engine cases and heads the same way. Never had a problem.

    cheers

What ever you do, make sure you have the shipping info

attached to the tranmission also. Think of bowling ball in a box, once it breaks through it will be separated from the address and it's lost, gone, good luck.. It would be best to strap it to a small pallet, exposed for all to see, so that it isn't loaded on it's side, or upside down and other packages aren't loaded on top of it, crushing the box/crate. Marking it This End Up is usually ignored. Also, insure it for what its worth.
