Thread: Early steel wheels question - finish?

Early steel wheels question - finish?

If a car came with a painted steel wheel as a spare, I would assume that the car had painted steel wheels all around originally. If the spare is chrome, the car most likely had chrome steel wheels. I am trying to figure out the correct wheels for my 65/66. It has a painted slotted steel spare.
    Thanks.

My 65 has chrome wheels and a painted spare the spare is also a different shade of grey compared to the grey that was on most of the painted wheels I have seen....

My car has a chrome spare and the car came with chrome wheels...I would say painted for you, but check the date stamp on the spare to make sure fits the car.

Eric, I am now much too poor to afford good parts from reliable sources. I will have to underground for now...

Hmm. . . nice early tach. What's the date code? Trying to figure out the cutover point, mine dates from 2.66, note different legend.

When I get a chance to pull it, I will make sure to post. I just looked at my steering wheel and it is stamped "1165". I assume this is a manufactured date? Seems late given my VIN, but who knows?
