    Preparation for Winter Storage

    Hi All,

Unfortunately I need to store my car for about 12 months as I'm travelling with work.

What do members recommend I should do in terms of preparing the car (i.e. remove batteries, inflate tyres, etc.)?

I should be able to get my mechanic to take a look at it / drive it for me. How often do you think this needs to be done?

Any guidance / advice would be much appreciated.

    Many thanks in advance,

    Chris.

I think it's more important where you store it than what you do to the car before you store it. That said, I would drain the fuel tank and run the car with fresh oil before storing it. Try to do something to keep out vermin. If you're in New England, damp and cold are your enemies for long term storage.

Have him drive it for 1 hour every 2 weeks. No short trips.

Keep the battery on a battery maintainer ('float' trickle charger).

    Nothing else need be done.

Here's the best thread on this topic I've found. Grady Clay's reply seems to be the best:

One thing for sure, if everyone followed Grady's advice there'd be a lot more nice old 911s out there.
