    Orange bar hood crest

I have 3 questions regarding the orange bar hood crest. #1 was the original orange a bright orange color or a brown orange color. I have 3 old damaged crest from parts cars and one is the lighter orange and 2 are the brown orange. Did they make them this way in different shades or am I seeing staining or fading over the years? #2 I have another one that looks like the newer maroon or red bar but it has a 901 number on the back, what year is that from? #3 Were the orange bar crest originally almost flat unlike the newer version marron bar crest which are more convex? Thanks Ron

    Hey Ron,

#1 - The orange in the early badge is a VERY close match to the factory 'tangerine' color... if you have a color variation on an original badge it's do to ware, age, and fade...

#2 - The 'new' 'red' badges started in '75... then changed again in the late 80's
all the number on the back stayed 901...

#3 - I'm not sure of the curve in the badges...

    Hope this helps,

    Cheers,

    Oranges

#3- Flat. The first repros were convex...later flat. The repros are more orange than the originals. The original tangerine (as described by Chuck) becomes more orange with age, but not quite as orange as the repro. The latest repros are very good, but as usual, not the same.

    Thanks and an update

Thanks for the responses, keep the answers coming. I took 2 of the Crest with the brown orange bars and took my Dremel and started grinding through the orange bars and the color never changed all the way through the material. That stuff is hard as diamonds so I doubt it could change color all the way throught the material. Any thoughts? So why the 2 different orange colors? Thanks Ron PS the crests I used are damaged
