    Tire Question

Any suggestions for tires for 7's and 8's on 72 flared 911T 2.7? Would like vintage look with modern street performance. Probably 205's & 225's. Car currently has Avon bias ply race tires - not suitable for street / wet. Another car has Michelin vintage repro radials. Are Avon CR6 ZZ available in 205 / 225?

    Unhappy

    Steve,

We're running out of options buddy...

I switched to 205x55 / 225x50's about 5 sets of street tires ago... Have always run S-03's in that size... I just got a new set of rears, however in about 7500 miles they'll be impossible to replace ... S-03's in our size have been out of production for over a year....

Have always run 205x50 / 225x50 on the track... these DOT track sizes are still available... but who knows for how long...

I personally think the best tire size for our 7 & 8" flared cars is 205x60 / 215x60.... 'They' stopped making ultra-high performance street tires in that size about 7 years ago when they discontinued the AVS-Intermediates...

So, my friend, if you've been spoiled with very good 15" street tires like me... I'm not sure WHAT we will do......

I know a couple of friends who run Toyo RA-1's in 205/225 on both track and street... and kind'a get away with it here in SoCal........

BTW- I have also asked for help and suggestions on this very question...

    Sorry for no help...

    Cheers,

    Steve-

Check with Coker Tire 800.257.6336. Michelin makes a 15" DOT legal, period correct race tire in two compounds TB5 & TB15 with a pretty good rim width selection, I think they cover 5” thru 15” in width. They kind of look like the old Firestone race tire back in the 70’s. I’ve seen a few sets on the road and the feedback has been pretty good, however they are a little pricey.

Ended up going with 185/70 + 216/60 Avon CR6 ZZs. Same size as original RS tires, I think. Dave @ SASCO has heard great things from people who are using them, and Hayden has them on his orange car and recommends them.

I have these sizes of Avon CR6ZZ too (albeit on deep sixes/7R wheels) - the only problem being that the 185/70's are only HR-rated.

I drove and was driven in a car on 8/9x15s today running TB15s- 215/55 and 270/45. Brilliant rubber, the higher profile was very comfortable but still great grip when they got warm. We were full sideways drifting around roundabouts, sliding, jumping, handbrake turns etc and the tyres took it all in their stride.

Have also recently driven a car on 7 and 8 x 15s running Toyo Proxes T1s, a nice tyre but very modern-looking.

NOW, they make all kinds of stuff for my old battle wagon these days. The 175/15 Avon is a perfect fit on 4.5's. Rumor has it that they are quite sticky (hard compound for the street).
For the money I think the Vredesteins are a option.

    Best,

    Potenza-RE-07

    Hi Chuck,

Sorry I can't recall where I saw that tire mentioned . The Bridgestone web site doesn't mention it either but Google comes up with a few hits and it seems that the tire is available only in the Far East. But then there is the naming; 07 or 070. Sorry I can't give you any specs. I will look further...
