    7R Fitment

Having a fiddle last weekend and I noticed that the deep sixes just clear the thermostat for the front oil cooler.

Given the extra width is inboard on the 7R's how do you guys with front coolers get enough clearance.

I did a search but haven't been able to find an answer

    Thanks

You should go like real 911R or S, oil thermostat in engine bay

    Hi,

Yes they will clear in the rear with the later style thermostat, but you are limited by the tire size, unless you roll the arch. I have 7Rs on my 1971 car and run a later 3.2 oil cooler set up.

here is the therm set up (not fully bolted up yet in this pic)

    Thanks Guys

The car is currently lowered and running 205/60 15's on deep sixes

I'd like to retain the 60 series rubber if I can and gain a little extra width

I think its likely that the ride height might need to come up a little but I guess it's going to be a matter of experimenting with spacers and suspension settings.

There is a bloke down here that is ex Tuthill who has set up a motor sport workshop. Might be time to pay him a visit I think the current set up is a little to track oriented for my liking....

I have 944 8X16s on the rear of my MOSTLY stock-flared 911 - they've been massaged a bit but I think my response to your post may still help you.

My car has a 3.2 Carrera oil tank with a 74-style front cooler setup. With the 8X16s I run a 1/4" spacer in order to clear the Turbo calipers (not needed for body clearance) and made custom lines that go from the oil tank up the body (to about the top of the wheel well), over the arc of the tire, and back down to the thermostat. They're held in place against the body with Adel clamps. I've got so much space that it's ridiculous. I don't remember off the top of my head, but I think I'm running 225X50s.

We made a similar setup for the racecar we built, and that car's running standard 7X15s. Again, there's so much clearance it's criminal.

If you were to do this with your 7Rs, you would have plenty of space to work with and not limit yourself so much on tire selection.

Alan, did you end up welding the stud on the body to hold the lines in the rear?

For clearance, and depending on the car, we sometimes forgo the stud and just use a factory clamp and bolt to hold the rear hard lines...

    Hi Marco,

Like you said I used a factory clamp and bolt, works fine.

    Thanks

    Marco,

Pictures of your setup showing clearance and any fender "massaging" would be helpful....
