Thread: My 911 is breaking my heart.

My 911 is breaking my heart.

Here is Helga, my beautiful 70T waiting for her flatbed ride to Eurocar Werks in Houston. Her motor continues to thump at idle. A compression test will tell the story - I am bracing myself for the bad news.

Very sorry to hear your blues Ulrich....

Is this the first time you started your beautiful blue T... ?

If no, has it always had the thumping idle... ?

If no, did you zing (over-rev) the motor at any point...?

If no, was car sold to you as 'sound running' with no engine issues... ?

    Cheers,

    Chuck,
Thanks for the reply. The car was sold as having a rebuilt engine (no PPI, my stupidity) with a build sheet and documentation. The previous owner then never came up with the documents. I did an oil change and checked sparkplugs, etc. but the thump has been there from day one. I had hoped it would be just a carb adjustment.

Armed with what I get from Eurocar Werks I may try to get some compensation out of the previous owner.

Beautiful car! If it's any consolation...I feel your pain. My heart's been broken many times over the last 6 months. Old 911's are like bad girlfriends.

    Ulrich,
Look at it from a different viewpoint. It's a 70T motor. If the engine needs a rebuild, here is your opportunity to UPGRADE to S spec''s!!! Yeah, it's another $8-12k, but you will thank yourself everytime you get above 5k rev's.
Otherwise, when an engine is running well, it's really hard to justify an unnecessary rebuild just for the fun of it. I would welcome the opportunity for my 72T motor to blow up. I have a set of 2.2S P&C's, early S cams, and 2.4S heads just waiting to be swapped out

Thanks for the replies. The color was done by the PO and is non-Porsche metallic blue painted over previous Guards Red. Closest current match I could find is 2003 Mini Cooper S Indi Blue.

Two things: first, Guards Red, to be clear, was not original to your car. Second, rebuilding the motor is a great opportunity IF you have the cash to spend. If you are on a budget (like most of us) and are mechnically apt, may I recommend this:

Even if you don't do it yourself, it is a really fun read and reference. It takes all of the mystery out of the 911 motor, IMO. Best of luck!
