Question Need help with 1968 door frames for a 911L

Can anybody confirm that the door frames on a 1968 911L were made of aluminum and not brass/chrome? Does anybody know when the change from brass/chrome to aluminum was made? I'm trying to restore a car and got some nice frames chromed, now it looks like I need to find some aluminum ones and sel l the ones I have. Any help will be appreciated.

That is what I have always read. I bought a set of complete 68 doors just for the frames and vent windows (only coupe alum frames with vent windows). Yes, they are aluminum and not chromed brass.

Don't know of the cut off for the brass sorry.

    Hi,

I have just finished restoring a pair of 68 (1 year only) door frames for a customer. The 68 frames are ally, but with chrome opening quarter windows as pre the pre 68 coupe frames (targa ones are different). As Porsche mixed the ally/brass for that one year there are quite a few other specific parts. The set here have been fully stripped, polished, re-anodised and brass parts re-chromed. If it helps I will take some pictures.

    Thanks

    Alan

I own both a 67 and a 68. The 67 is all brass. The 68 has alloy window frames and brass vent windows. The 68 is by the way a really early 911L. So early in fact, that it had 67S side decos (which was why I bought it). The 68 is a parts car, so if anyone out there needs the window frames they are available.

Hi Tom, tinted glass or clear? Rubber capped wing release handle or the chrome with the button?

I might be interested as my wing frames are a bit pitted.
