Sealed Battery Recomendations for Battery Box

I am looking for a sealed replacement battery/s for my old lead acid (paint eating) batteries which will fit the battery boxes - its a 73. Future owners can worry about correctness, I am more interested in preserving my pristine paint. I have no issue with keeping the car plugged into a battery maintainer, but would like the cranking amps to start near zero if left out for 24 hours. Any recommendations?

What I had in it was an Odyssey PC680 drycell from Batterymart.com. 16 Ah, 25 min reserve. The thing is tiny and light: # Length 7 in., # Width 3 1/16 in., # Height 6 5/8 in. and 17 lbs. http://www.batterymart.com/p-odyssey...j-battery.html

It died after 3 years, but to be honest I had an electrical drain which killed the battery a dozen or so times. Would 2 of them been a better approach? I like the weight, no leakage, dimensions etc.

Thanks Harry. The correct size appears to be DF75 for $130 per. I will check to see if there are still leakage problems.

    Hey Rick,

Not sure if you are stuck on having two, but I put a single Optima on it's side in the passenger-side battery cavity, and thoroughly isolated the driver's side lead. That way if I (or anyone else) wants to go back to two, it's pretty straight forward. I like to think the weight way out there balances the car (with my fat a$$) a little better than the smugglers box.

My solution might make some cringe, but it hasn't bothered me a bit!

LOL! Brad, I like the way you think - distressing - but effective. Used original factory bolts for mounting points. Used steel flat bar and bent to fit like a glove - what a process! (painted semi-gloss). The original battery ground was replaced with a much stronger through the body bolt. It ain't pretty, but it will pass tech.

    Rick,
Is that an Optima? Pretty slick mounting job. I've been considering two batteries for my 71E, but that looks good and effective.
