The '1971 Spa 917' is without doubt the best in show. The car is basically untouched from when it raced in 71. It is so incredibly crude, one would think it was built in a high school shop class. It is pure function with no regard for appearance. It makes all the incorrect hyper-restored examples around it seem like replicas.
This is the level of workmanship on the entire body:
Which one do you look at first? That is the question
Has anyone actually heard the flat 16 running yet ?
If so can you do a u tube so we can all hear it pls ??
Cheers,
Dennis.

Dennis - the 16 doesn't run. Supposedly, there's nothing inside the case right now! We heard that it is scheduled by the museum to be rebuilt in about a year. This is the car that Mark Donohue said you could hear the front of the engine start before the rear.
Fantastic pics!

This was by far the best Porsche event I've ever been to - everyone I talked with here said the same thing. Seeing my buds in Florida was great fun, and I met some great luminaries in the Porsche world. Pete Stout of Excellence has been to all three Rennsport Reunions and told me yesterday this one was the best so far. When Rennsport IV comes around, I would highly recommend the trip. The cars, drivers and attendees are some of the best in the world. I'm so excited, I'm considering going to LeMans Classik to keep it all going!
Brad A and Rick S - I'm flying home today and will bring my laptop to the Tuesday brewpub meet for a slideshow.

And that is my lovely wife (black helmet) riding shotgun for her first laps ever around Daytona - it took her two days to work up the nerve.
Thanks for the post Randy!
