I've just always been curious what the thinking was for not giving the driver a grab handle for the armrest on the early cars? Would RHD car passenger handles fit?

gets in way of steering as this is a sports car after all mean't to be driven hard really thats what I have always heard. Suppose to close the door by having the window down.

A RHD car passenger handle will fit. Not easy to find though.

Hi,
I have fitted RHD only door pulls to several of my cars with no problems. I am really unsure why Porsche didn't design something a little better, it's the main reason why so many LH front door pocket become damaged/broken as they used to pull the door shut.
The RHD ones can still can be found but have become a pretty expensive item.

On the SWB RHD passenger handles, the bottom piece is the same as the LHD drivers arm rest, it's the actual handle part that is different and then attached to the LHD piece to create a full RHD passenger side handle. They are difficult to find but, not impossibleOriginally Posted by a911s

Somewhat off topic, I created a pull strap out of 1.5" black nylon material (similar to what you would see on back backs, etc) and placed O-ringed rivets (don't know the correct name) at both ends, and then attached it to the most forward allen-bolt behind the driver's arm rest (LHD), creating a loop. It works quite well, stays out of the way, and I no longer wonder where to grab the door to close.
An alternative is taking the same strap, a bit longer and attaching to the same top mounting point on the passenger side and the forward-most allen screw behind the arm rest. It is a rough, functional facsimile.

can you post a photo, Rick?
I did the same thing on a 911E that I had, it is easily removable if you want to go back to original, yet practical for every day use
OK. Since I posted this question on the other thread, I'll post it here -- why do you need a grab handle on the driver side?
