    directional swich repair

The directional switch on my 73 is does not stay engaged for right hand turns all the time...well sometimes it does. The high beam flasher works part time as well. Is the switch telling me it is about to toast itself or is it already too late? Could the engagement issue be spring tension and worn interface on the switch plate? Has anyone repaired one or does anyone know of a repair service out there? There's a guy on the 356 reg site that does 356 switches don't know about 911s. I want to save the original stalk look of the switch, new ones do not look the same. TIA, Steve

    turn signal switch

    Hi Steve,
I have a similar problem with the t.s lite switch on my 73.5 911T. With the sw in the low beam headlite posn the hi beams come on. In order to keep the hi beams off I have to hold slight backpressure on the t/s handle. I had this same problem in 1989 when I bought the car and solved same with a new exact replacement sw. I kept the old sw and have been playing with it to see if it could be repaired. Im guessing that the problem is not enough spring pressure to hold sw in proper position or mech is lacking enough lube and is hanging up. I will try to clean and lube the sw to see if that solves the problem and any other ideas, suggestions would be appreciated. Performance shows a replacement sw at $200 but dont know if its an exact factory replacement. The no on my switches is 201.077 911 613 301 30 and is a SWF Auto-Electric made in W. Germany sw. TIA

A very common problem. Please read this thread for some ideas:

I tried this but the plastic broke and I ended up getting a used one from DC Automotive.

Hi Steve, I'm glad that you mentioned this because the high beam flasher on my 73.5T does not work. I always thought that the early cars did not have this option. I even looked in the original owners manual (page 26) when I first got the car and nothing is mentioned.

I really like the option of having high beam flashers and had thought about installing a later model turn signal switch with the early straight stalk. So now I'm gonna take a good look at it and see if there's a way that I can get it to work again.

Oh, and thanks to HarryD for that helpful link!
